Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Pentax LX - Message Board/Guestbook

Industry wide indications and ceasing film body development by Pentax altogether in early 2003 more than suggest the manual focus Pentax LX will not be having an upgrade (except, perhaps for very rare Limited Edition Models hand assembled by special commission by the new HoyaPentax Corporation). In 2008 Pentax became a division of Hoya Corporation, which had together with Pentax released jointly developed professional grade optics (since 2005); Pentax has shifted its attention to development of auto focus Digital SLRs having build qualities constructed for the long run--now with weather seals--like the LX. You may use this site for common support and sharing of mutual users knowledge or experiences among yourselves. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for the advanced users Pentax SLR cameras from the LX forward, including many such auto focus film cameras, and Pentax digital SLR cameras. We keep the site going too for the WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here as to its magnificent K mount system user archives: as have been shared here for many years. Have an inquiry related to Pentax gear? First try KEYING IN YOUR KEY WORD(S) for a preexisting archived response on your subject of inquiry from this LX site. If your inquiry or sharing is from advanced users K10D, K20D, or K200D SLR needs, proceed on to t NEW PENTAX ADVANCED USERS K10D, K20D SLR site.

This LX site was specifically created for the great Pentax LX SLR camera model(s), and now has incorporated increased opportunity for an expanded interchange with the introductions of the Pentax K10D, K20D, and K200D SLRs to include advanced and professional digital user models. Interchange is encouraged with the intention to continue as a forum for advanced system users of past K-mount film based SLR systems and the mentioned Pentax DSLRs. With decreasing forum traffic here, and enthusiasts moving on with SLR digital imaging products futures, we hope the continued convenience of this site and its past Pentax advanced LX users data archives--provided by the database KEY WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here--can be very useful to you. Most past site user techniques, systems components, and lenses of Pentax advanced applications--as have been past examined by users on this site--are still of use regarding the newest Pentax SLRs. Please don't mail us with other than constructive suggestions or to rectify mistakes found within this site, thank you. Since this is a non-profitable resource site, maintained by professional and advanced system users, the developer of this site reserves the rights to censor or delete any inappropriate, unrelated, misleading or excessively hostile messages posted herein. If your intention is to dispose of your Pentax cameras or its accompanying accessories and/or you are looking for a used model, or even for any of its system components: please use a separate section with a higher volume of related traffic for these purposes: on the
Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia sites sponsor has no Guestbook standing on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience of visiting our site and its service, you may use the MIR's Guestbook found at another new window by clicking on the Guestbook Link.

Hi Jorge,
Not sure what might be the name/type of the glue in your area, but the one I used on my LX cameras to fix leatherette (and even now on Canon digital!)is glue used for shoe repair. It is transparent yellow and with quite strong odor but once it dries holds like crazy. Yet, it is not brittle like Crazy Glue, has fair amount of elasticity so it can withstand years of (ab)use under different temperature and humidity conditions.
The one I am using right now is "KLEBFEST" , German product and I bough it from my shoe repair guy here in Canada. It also works great for leather, metal, rubber, etc. I think it is kind of liquid caoutchouc, might be called Contact Cement here in the North America. It should be applied on both sides to be bonded, at thin as possible. Maybe two layers for absorbing materials but not LX case. Than you wait 3-5 min. and press two sides - no way back or re-positioning so be careful, otherwise the whole process has to repeated. Not to mention that surfaces has to be as clean as possible and all old glue residue removed.
Hope this helps,
Mico

Hi there, who ever is still looking for great Pentax LX camera.
Yes Anton, we used to exchange several messages a week but place seems to be rater quiet in the past few years. All I have left from my Pentax gear are a few pictures of the cameras I took just before selling my last LX and a few remaining lenses - and a thousands of great pictures taken with it which yet have to be surpassed with my "new" digital toys. My decision to sell LX-es was based solely on the fact that if not used on the regular basis LX tends to develop all kinds of weird symptoms. Let`s recall old good days of the forum with the terms like "sticky mirror" "erratic shutter speed" end so on...I even miss those bugs sometimes!

Hello.

Does anyone know what to use to re-glue a peeling leatherette on my Pentax LX?
I had sent this 2 Pentax to have it replaced, 3 years later, its coming off again.
Not sure what to use. Want to keep my LX for as long as I can.
cheers.
Thank you.
Jorge

Wow, almost a year since a last posting. I remember the days when there were several postings a week. I still have my LX's and wonderful M & A lenses but they don't get as much use as they should. Expense is certainly one consideration, digital marches on and its running cost (assuming you already have a computer etc.) are minimal.

I recently bought an M 85 f2.0 and it's taken over a month to fill the test film.... shame on me!

UPdated 11/2010. I have departed this Pentax LX Guestbook site maintenance administration to move over to the further developing of the Pentax System Digital SLR Advanced Users site for it's future interactive commitments. It has been a long season for me here, offering what I could. Thanks for your indulgence. Now, for personal input time needs, current imaging and GIS field science professional relationships, commercial imaging networking, etc.: I must move on. I sold my final LX camera, winder, etc. with the transition.

The K-5 with the advanced sensor and the K-r have advanced low light, video, and noise tackling capacities. The K-x, K-7 and K-20D, with DA star and IF motorized lenses have been well received by advanced Pentax System users for some trend setting reasons. Hoya Corporation, Pentax Division, is an innovator for Aps-C lens and body trends! Anti shake is improved with each new series. And weather resistance too for the top line cameras.

We hope the other LX site facilitators will look in to manage input here from time to time. We hope to take the Pentax System Digital SLR Advanced Users site out of its beta stage sometime, now that I have moved to the K-5, when MIR folks may break away from other work to aid the transition. --Jay
