Industry wide indications and ceasing film body development by Pentax altogether in early 2003 more than suggest the manual focus Pentax LX will not be having an upgrade (except, perhaps for very rare Limited Edition Models hand assembled by special commission by the new HoyaPentax Corporation). In 2008 Pentax became a division of Hoya Corporation, which had together with Pentax released jointly developed professional grade optics (since 2005); Pentax has shifted its attention to development of auto focus Digital SLRs having build qualities constructed for the long run--now with weather seals--like the LX. You may use this site for common support and sharing of mutual users knowledge or experiences among yourselves. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for the advanced users Pentax SLR cameras from the LX forward, including many such auto focus film cameras, and Pentax digital SLR cameras. We keep the site going too for the WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here as to its magnificent K mount system user archives: as have been shared here for many years. Have an inquiry related to Pentax gear? First try KEYING IN YOUR KEY WORD(S) for a preexisting archived response on your subject of inquiry from this LX site. If your inquiry or sharing is from advanced users K10D, K20D, or K200D SLR needs, proceed on to t NEW PENTAX ADVANCED USERS K10D, K20D SLR site.
This LX site was specifically created for the great Pentax LX SLR camera model(s), and now has incorporated increased opportunity for an expanded interchange with the introductions of the Pentax K10D, K20D, and K200D SLRs to include advanced and professional digital user models. Interchange is encouraged with the intention to continue as a forum for advanced system users of past K-mount film based SLR systems and the mentioned Pentax DSLRs. With decreasing forum traffic here, and enthusiasts moving on with SLR digital imaging products futures, we hope the continued convenience of this site and its past Pentax advanced LX users data archives--provided by the database KEY WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here--can be very useful to you. Most past site user techniques, systems components, and lenses of Pentax advanced applications--as have been past examined by users on this site--are still of use regarding the newest Pentax SLRs. Please don't mail us with other than constructive suggestions or to rectify mistakes found within this site, thank you. If your intention is to dispose of your Pentax cameras or its accompanying accessories and/or you are looking for a used model, or even for any of its system components: please use a separate section with a higher volume of related traffic for these purposes: on the Free Trade Zone site instead. I agree with you 'Micro' about the digital Pro Pentax model and the lack of pro updates in the Pentax line.I have 'almost' changed to Canon ann Nikon during the past years, but the LX has no competition, so I still want to stay with it. Also, the Pentax Z1P is an amazing tool and definitely capable of producing results similar to anything the Eos1 or F5 can cope with. The Z1p also works very well with the extra grip, although I would have liked a vertical release button.
Yes, Pentax need to pull their socks up in the Pro league; but after a great deal of thought I have decided to stick with Pentax.....those lenses I own in the Pentax SMC line up are too good to lose!!2. From : Niall Syms (email@example.com)

I want to thank the web masters for this site. It is a great resource. I have had Pentax cameras for over 25 years, started with the MX which I lost, and then an ME Super that I still have and works great. I had been playing with the idea of moving up to an LX for two years and I finally found one. I am very excited about finally getting my LX, and now finding this site and knowing there are others out there who feel the same way about their LX's is even better!
I seem to have similar problems that others have mentioned, a sticky mirror and it will not focus at infinity. Any suggestions? It is still under the shop's warranty, but I would have to ship overseas since I bought in the USA and live in Venezuela. Thanks for your support, and congradualtions on a great site! Mark Wenholz4. Hello. I've been using my LX since 1987 when I bought it new complete with FA1, waste level 4 different screens, motor LX and Nicad pack. The pack is long past it's sell by date and is currently in the state of used parts. I have had no sucess in finding replacement nicads and have had to resort to more un orthodox methods of power. Does any one have a solid address for supplies of these nicads. I also have the full LX camera and Motor leaflets (in new condition) which I could eventually scan if anyone is intrested. Also I need to upgrade my old SMC manual lenses. Anyone got any suggestions as to what is available. Regards Stuart6. From : peter (email@example.com)

In the user's manual of my LX camera, the overexposure/underexposure dial locking button is supposed to also activate the metering system, while this does not occur on my camera. Does this show a damage on my camera or is this metering system activation not specific to all models of LX cameras?
Thank you8. From : Mico (email@example.com)

A a professional photographer and ( since 1981) proud ownwr of three LX cameras, I hope this is not misuse of this site... For years, I have been waiting for upgrade of LX, worth to be it`s descendant. Z-1p and even MZ-S were not an answer to my wish. Now, I`m waiting for decent digital SLR from Pentax. It seems to be the same old story... The prototype shown on Frankfurt Photokina, in September 2000, has been discontinued even before it entered the production line. If Pentax continues to act so slowlly, I`m affraid that finally it will become
the "point-and-shoot" company. And, I would not like to change my Pentax system after 25 years . Anyhow, if anybody has ANY information about Pentax`s digital SLR, I would appreciate to hear it. Thank you!

Tobias - The LX will be perfect for your expedtion. If the mirror does #lock-up# due to battery failure, then you need to remove battery, the mirror will then return to position and continue working as normal in mechanical mode. However, I would advise you to also take a remote battery lead specially designed for the LX. This allows you to place the LX body batteries in a warm jacket or inside your pocket and so continue shooting in freezing conditions (it works - I have used the LX well below minus 20 C). Do not confuse this remote battery connection with a remote pack for motordrive. The motordrive pack power does not replace LX body battery power - you must buy the small remote battery that takes the LX body button cells.
Enjoy your trip...and bring back some stunning photos.
