Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Pentax LX - Message Board/Guestbook

Industry wide indications and ceasing film body development by Pentax altogether in early 2003 more than suggest the manual focus Pentax LX will not be having an upgrade (except, perhaps for very rare Limited Edition Models hand assembled by special commission by the new HoyaPentax Corporation). In 2008 Pentax became a division of Hoya Corporation, which had together with Pentax released jointly developed professional grade optics (since 2005); Pentax has shifted its attention to development of auto focus Digital SLRs having build qualities constructed for the long run--now with weather seals--like the LX. You may use this site for common support and sharing of mutual users knowledge or experiences among yourselves. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for the advanced users Pentax SLR cameras from the LX forward, including many such auto focus film cameras, and Pentax digital SLR cameras. We keep the site going too for the WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here as to its magnificent K mount system user archives: as have been shared here for many years. Have an inquiry related to Pentax gear? First try KEYING IN YOUR KEY WORD(S) for a preexisting archived response on your subject of inquiry from this LX site. If your inquiry or sharing is from advanced users K10D, K20D, or K200D SLR needs, proceed on to t NEW PENTAX ADVANCED USERS K10D, K20D SLR site.

This LX site was specifically created for the great Pentax LX SLR camera model(s), and now has incorporated increased opportunity for an expanded interchange with the introductions of the Pentax K10D, K20D, and K200D SLRs to include advanced and professional digital user models. Interchange is encouraged with the intention to continue as a forum for advanced system users of past K-mount film based SLR systems and the mentioned Pentax DSLRs. With decreasing forum traffic here, and enthusiasts moving on with SLR digital imaging products futures, we hope the continued convenience of this site and its past Pentax advanced LX users data archives--provided by the database KEY WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here--can be very useful to you. Most past site user techniques, systems components, and lenses of Pentax advanced applications--as have been past examined by users on this site--are still of use regarding the newest Pentax SLRs. Please don't mail us with other than constructive suggestions or to rectify mistakes found within this site, thank you. Since this is a non-profitable resource site, maintained by professional and advanced system users, the developer of this site reserves the rights to censor or delete any inappropriate, unrelated, misleading or excessively hostile messages posted herein. If your intention is to dispose of your Pentax cameras or its accompanying accessories and/or you are looking for a used model, or even for any of its system components: please use a separate section with a higher volume of related traffic for these purposes: on the
Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia sites sponsor has no Guestbook standing on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience of visiting our site and its service, you may use the MIR's Guestbook found at another new window by clicking on the Guestbook Link.

Jay, my F*300/4.5 seems to be fine after second run through Pentax Canada bowels, so fortunately I will not need guys from Colorado as a rescue team. Thanks anyway. M.

Hi guys I've just received advice from Sigma re my PentaxLX with 400mm APO macro and 1.4ex fitted. As far as they are concerned the set up is fully compatible and should work normally. Looks like I'll never know why the LX appears to take the pictures at the correct shutter speed on auto despite the viewfinder readout indicating otherwise? As my dealer has agreed to refund if I continue to be dissatisfied, I will take some more test shots on slide film, but if all seems to be OK I will probably keep it. Phil

On the ringflash. Go to the Pentax USA website. Let the first page fully load. Look for the small black print "site map". Click. Go to "Literature". Click. Go to "download manuals". Click. Find your ringflash under "Accessories," as listed. Click to download. Get the free manual. Have a dog biscuit for following directions. --Jay

Thanks Anton That all makes sense to me now. I must admit it was the left switch with int and ext that had me puzzled. I rarely take rapid succession photos so the batteries will do fine for now. Can't wait to get out and give it a go. I've just ordered another lens today It's the Sigma 15mm ex paf fit. I've always wanted one to try my hand at creativity, but previously lack of funds prevented me. Luckily my 2 sons have offered to share the cost of it as a joint present for my birthday (yesterday) and xmas, Can't be bad. heh heh. Cheers again Phil

Phil, congratulations on your purchase. I was going to but one of these but I own the Pentax SMC 100 f2.8 Macro with a 58mm and imagined it would vignette but with a macro you will nearly always be stopping down anyway so you should be okay. There is/was a manual on the web somewhere as I downloaded it to check the fitting etc. However I can remember/guess what most of these things mean:

0n the left is a switch with 3 positions:

top = int on - for use with the interval AA batteries
middle = off - Off
bottom = ext ? - for use with the TR Power Pack which holds 6 'C' size batteries and really zaps the flash re-charge times. I believe Ffordes Photographic has one for sale for a reasonable £45

On the right is another switch with 3 positions:

top = TTL Auto - for use with the LX etc. in full auto flash mode (LX on Auto)
middle = Full - Manual flash at full power
bottom = 1/4 - Manual flash at 1/4 power (fill-in)

At the bottom is an on/off switch saying Finder A check ? - the 1/75th LED in the LX viewfinder will blink after flash exposure to confirm sufficient light. If it doesn't blink you need to open up the aperture until it does confirm correct exposure. AB

Hi guys I've taken delivery today of my Pentax AF080C ringflash. As it was 2nd hand and came with no instructions I wonder if anyone can assist with a couple of questions

1) the thread on it fits my standard 1.7 pentax lens (49mm)but as I wish to use it also with my Sigma 105 macro (58mm thread)I suppose I will need to buy a step up ring to fit.However, will this result in vignetting?
2) Can someone please briefly explain the sitches to me : 0n the left is a switch with 3 positions:

top = int on
middle = off
bottom = ext ?

On the right is another switch with 3 positions:

top = TTL Auto
middle = Full)
bottom = 1/4 )these 2 join together with 'M' which I take to be manual At the bottom is an on/off switch saying Finder A check ? I want to simply use it as ttl flash with auto setting on my camera so that I can choose the aperture. I understand that if I do the camera will automatically use the correct shutter speed (rather than me using x) and the flash will fire the correct amount measuring the light from the subject? thanks Phil

Can't help with the exotic wood, sorry. It seems B+H are still selling Grip A's if thats any help. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=41157&is=REG I'd be interested in a Grip B if one came up. I'll be looking for Winder or MD soon too. Why couldn't my dream camera of been an EOS 5? I'm sure this would all be easier. Nah.

Yup, call me an anorak but I have one of those grips - and lovely it is too. It was supplied by Rob Studdert who maintains another LX site (http://members.ozemail.com.au/~distudio/thepentaxlx.html) there wasn't enough demand for the grips so he stopped doing them. You'll doubtless find an email address on the site so you could mail him and se what's what.

Some months ago there was an eBay posting for custom grips for LX bodies. It was a website called The LX Grip, and now we can't find it through Favorites or Google search. Please advise if you know anything about who this is, and how to reach them. They were carving great looking grips from exotic wood, some that looked like Motor Drive A etc. Thanks in advance if you can help us!
