Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Pentax LX - Message Board/Guestbook

Industry wide indications and ceasing film body development by Pentax altogether in early 2003 more than suggest the manual focus Pentax LX will not be having an upgrade (except, perhaps for very rare Limited Edition Models hand assembled by special commission by the new HoyaPentax Corporation). In 2008 Pentax became a division of Hoya Corporation, which had together with Pentax released jointly developed professional grade optics (since 2005); Pentax has shifted its attention to development of auto focus Digital SLRs having build qualities constructed for the long run--now with weather seals--like the LX. You may use this site for common support and sharing of mutual users knowledge or experiences among yourselves. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for the advanced users Pentax SLR cameras from the LX forward, including many such auto focus film cameras, and Pentax digital SLR cameras. We keep the site going too for the WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here as to its magnificent K mount system user archives: as have been shared here for many years. Have an inquiry related to Pentax gear? First try KEYING IN YOUR KEY WORD(S) for a preexisting archived response on your subject of inquiry from this LX site. If your inquiry or sharing is from advanced users K10D, K20D, or K200D SLR needs, proceed on to t NEW PENTAX ADVANCED USERS K10D, K20D SLR site.

This LX site was specifically created for the great Pentax LX SLR camera model(s), and now has incorporated increased opportunity for an expanded interchange with the introductions of the Pentax K10D, K20D, and K200D SLRs to include advanced and professional digital user models. Interchange is encouraged with the intention to continue as a forum for advanced system users of past K-mount film based SLR systems and the mentioned Pentax DSLRs. With decreasing forum traffic here, and enthusiasts moving on with SLR digital imaging products futures, we hope the continued convenience of this site and its past Pentax advanced LX users data archives--provided by the database KEY WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here--can be very useful to you. Most past site user techniques, systems components, and lenses of Pentax advanced applications--as have been past examined by users on this site--are still of use regarding the newest Pentax SLRs. Please don't mail us with other than constructive suggestions or to rectify mistakes found within this site, thank you. Since this is a non-profitable resource site, maintained by professional and advanced system users, the developer of this site reserves the rights to censor or delete any inappropriate, unrelated, misleading or excessively hostile messages posted herein. If your intention is to dispose of your Pentax cameras or its accompanying accessories and/or you are looking for a used model, or even for any of its system components: please use a separate section with a higher volume of related traffic for these purposes: on the
Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia sites sponsor has no Guestbook standing on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience of visiting our site and its service, you may use the MIR's Guestbook found at another new window by clicking on the Guestbook Link.

AB, What you saw on the website was a dummy mock-up, non-working, locked in a display case (from the March Japanese tradeshow). Three possible body styles were advanced, that being one of three possible 6X4.5 constructs. One will be chosen in time. When it finally makes the market, we will know what shell has prevailed. It amazes me that the film industry does previews and can change final edits prior to national release here in the USA. One would think the camera industry would do likewise. --Jay

In this weeks Amateur Photographer magazine Roger Hicks states that he is aware that a number of photographers are RETURNING to film. In this months batch of my regular Hi-Fi magazines I read that some vinyl pressing plants are re-opening. As I write I'm listening to a recording that I purchased at a gig by The Sugar Beats Band - a jazzy outfit of guys in their twenties - vinyl was THE ONLY option (suits me fine). A company in America has bought the tooling, rights, and designs for some General Electric valves (vacuum tubes) and they are re-manufacturing them to original standards - this is also happening to another classic marque, I think it's Mullard. In Hi-Fi World magazine this month it is casually mentioned that the best Japanese cassette decks out perform CD. This pleases me as I recently purchased a slightly tatty Nakamichi ZX-7 cassette deck for £70, I had it serviced by craftsmen for £160 and it makes stunning recordings on TDK SA90 cassettes that I can take with me and play on my Sony Professional Walkman - sound quality is superb. Okay, I could have bought an iPod for the money but hey!

Film will survive I reckon. For sure. AB

Tony and all, It remains good news that the direction of Pentax Corp. R&D is honing its development to intercageable lens cameras. Will the crippled KAF mount be replaced> not likely, except with professionally designed optics as made available for professional use (like those backwards compatable--such as the two macros released last year). So, for LX users, long fixated on quality, and jewel like handling, this is a good development corporately. The current thrust toward consumer units being usurped by SLR development, for a certain market share and market place establishment means Pentax has its eye once again on the disciplined price of excellence. Wisdom may be that awaiting the sale trends to shake down to those buyers seeking real photographic desire for priceless creativity permits destination tools for the journey. --Jay

Pentax have launched a new SLR digital website. This may be in response to Canon's recent website launch, and also because Pentax saw a 42% loss in profits this year compared to the same time last year, and Pentax say that they are set to turn their attention away from cheap compact-type cameras and more towards the design and sales of SLR cameras, in hopes of better profit margins.

Here is the Url to the new Pentax website:

C.C., Assuming that the gold LX is not used, but in pristine condition, it can be worth up to $5,000.00 U.S. Collectors in Europe (G.B., and southern Europe), and on Ebay may be interested. --Jay

My mother owns an LX Gold that she won in a contest in 1986. Do you have any idea of what it might be worth or where to find an interested collector? Thanks

Pentax Digital Cameras recommended by Punk Bands that Matter as older lenses can be used on new Digital SLR's.
