Industry wide indications and ceasing film body development by Pentax altogether in early 2003 more than suggest the manual focus Pentax LX will not be having an upgrade (except, perhaps for very rare Limited Edition Models hand assembled by special commission by the new HoyaPentax Corporation). In 2008 Pentax became a division of Hoya Corporation, which had together with Pentax released jointly developed professional grade optics (since 2005); Pentax has shifted its attention to development of auto focus Digital SLRs having build qualities constructed for the long run--now with weather seals--like the LX. You may use this site for common support and sharing of mutual users knowledge or experiences among yourselves. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for the advanced users Pentax SLR cameras from the LX forward, including many such auto focus film cameras, and Pentax digital SLR cameras. We keep the site going too for the WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here as to its magnificent K mount system user archives: as have been shared here for many years. Have an inquiry related to Pentax gear? First try KEYING IN YOUR KEY WORD(S) for a preexisting archived response on your subject of inquiry from this LX site. If your inquiry or sharing is from advanced users K10D, K20D, or K200D SLR needs, proceed on to t NEW PENTAX ADVANCED USERS K10D, K20D SLR site.
This LX site was specifically created for the great Pentax LX SLR camera model(s), and now has incorporated increased opportunity for an expanded interchange with the introductions of the Pentax K10D, K20D, and K200D SLRs to include advanced and professional digital user models. Interchange is encouraged with the intention to continue as a forum for advanced system users of past K-mount film based SLR systems and the mentioned Pentax DSLRs. With decreasing forum traffic here, and enthusiasts moving on with SLR digital imaging products futures, we hope the continued convenience of this site and its past Pentax advanced LX users data archives--provided by the database KEY WORD SEARCH FEATURE found here--can be very useful to you. Most past site user techniques, systems components, and lenses of Pentax advanced applications--as have been past examined by users on this site--are still of use regarding the newest Pentax SLRs. Hi Anton
It is alright about mispelling.
I am a bit surprised by this high pitched ping in the camera, it sounds sickly to me, though not as irritating as the gilm autowinding motors in the present day cameras (*zeee). I guess it's just me and my ear.
One thing though, this metal against metal sound (*tingg) is not present in both the MX (which goes *thwap due cloth shutter) and the ME Super (which gives a subdued *klat) that I also use.
I know, I know, a camera is an image capturing device, not a musical instrument.

Apologies for misspelling your name earlier, ChoeN.
Is it just me or does anyone else find the rubber eyecup for the LX a pile of poo? It falls off with the slightest provocation and it gets in the way of opening the back so you have to lift it out of the way, at which point... it falls off. Putting it back on isn't a breeze either. I'm going to try a Jessops one which seems to have a stout metal base that slot in properly.

Choen, Every single LX I`ve had over the years had a different "sound" and it seems that older models (type 1) are louder than the more recent ones. Mico4. From : Mico (micolx@netscape.net)

CoeN I have a few LX's and they have different sounding pings. I think this is okay. If you're saying that with a dry run on auto the viewfinder indicates one half of one second and yet you hear and exposure of one or two seconds, then this is okay as the meter reads off the film during exposure and as you have no film it will cause a longer exposure due to the blackness of the pressure plate. This is NOT the erratic shutter that has been mentioned. Enjoy your LX. Anton6. From : choeN (not@this.com)

I just received my LX back from Asahi Photo Ltd (UK) of Wembley, London. I had sent it there for a CLA and repair. They took only 1 day to repair it. However, when I release the shutter there is still a high pitched metallic 'ting' sound. Peter of Asahi told me that this is not abnormal- is this true? Also, dry shooting the camera set at automatic at slow speeds the shuttr speed seem erratic- for instance, at 1/2 the shutter seem to be open for at least 1 or 2 seconds. Again, is this normal? Advice needed. Regard choeN7. From : Jay Hart (ibcom@onebox.com)

Sorry, my mistake. Globetrotter is right, all I`ve said before applies on film *IST, not on digital *IST D. Mico9. From : GLOBETROTTER (globetrotterworld@hotmail.com)

The (film version)Pentax*ist has a completely different body to the Pentax*istD. Maybe what you say is true of the film version? From what I have read, the A and FA-lenses work on the DSLR as they do on the Z1p or MZS. I hope you are wrong, mico.......10. It seems that *ist D IS NOT fully compatible with K,M,A,F,FA lenses. We haven`t had a chance to have hands-on, but according to some recent PDML discussions, that is the case." K" mount is there, but the "cripled" one similar to MZ-50 and MZ-60, which means that lenses without "A" setting are unable to provide the camera with aperture information. Even the "A" "F" and "FA" lenses full compatibility is under the question.
Wait and see, but for now it does not look promising. Mico
