Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Minolta X-700 | Maxxmum 7000 | Dynax 7000i - Guestbook/Message Board

Each of these three featured Minolta SLR camera models represent an era of its own to lead and has great influence over the entire photographic community. Unlike the two great Minolta cameras of yesteryears in the XK/XM/X1 and the XD-7, these newer series of Minolta classic served a different segment of users. Unfortunately, these bodies have been long discontinued and you may even find it difficult to locate proper support even from their own creator, Minolta. Have about 10 minolta bodies ranging from STR101 to XD11. XD11 drains batteries when shut off and I am told that that is not a fixable problem. Is that correct?
Also recently got a sunpak 266D minolta flash without instruction manual. It has 3 pins on hot shoe connector and I know that it will do TTL metering with my X700 however I don't know which program to use on the back of the flash (and have no manual and none online) When set to the TTL program mode (green mark) I guess I am supposed to choose one of the followling settings MX(B), MX(A) or RX. Which should it be. An email response would be most helpful
Thank You
Howard Nelson

Just thought I'd share that I borrowed my friend's Maxxum 7000 (appears to be an early model as the X's are crossed). The viewfinder display wasn't working.

I read post #4 here:
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.photo.equipment.35mm/browse_frm/thread/994c9ce695da3390/73cf11f97f430cf5?lnk=st&q=minolta+7000+viewfinder+display&rnum=1

And took the camera apart. Two mirrors were indeed loose. I obtained some Pliobond contact cement and after scratching my head on where they go, I glued them back. Viewfinder display works again! This is a really neat camera! If I got the serial number, could anybody date the camera? My friend thinks his dad had it before 1985.

Here are some pictures from taking the camera apart:

This is my first time on this site. Thanks to everyone for sharing: Any asistance would be great. I noticed that there are a couple of people that are experiencing the same issue I am having:

The shutter lever will not advance film in my X-700 in order to take pictures. What is the cost (in USD) to replace the advance mechanism in USD? or what is to much to pay for this type of service repair?

I just bought a used Minolta x-700 and am starting to get into photograhpy. I took it out for the first time this weekend and in the middle of a shot, the screen went black and pushing the button to take a picture does nothing. I put new batteries in and that did nothing. Help, what happened??? Any advice would be great!

"I have Minolta x7000 SLR camera. I need contact details for servicing of this camera.."

Minolta X-700, or 7000? Either way, Minolta discontinued all parts service for these cameras years ago, and is now out of the camera business completely. A few repairs can be done to the X-700 if the repairman is knowledgeable with 35mm electronica cameras, soldering capacitors, cleaning shutters, etc. The 7000 has much more complex electronics and would be hard to fix unless it's a very small issue, because parts are nowhere to be had. If you can't find a local 35mm camera repairman (harder to find these days), I'd just toss it and get something newer, preferably a 35mm camera with all-mechanical operation, or else one of recent manufacture.
