Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
Each of these three featured Minolta SLR camera models represent an era of its own to lead and has great influence over the entire photographic community. Unlike the two great Minolta cameras of yesteryears in the XK/XM/X1 and the XD-7, these newer series of Minolta classic served a different segment of users. Unfortunately, these bodies have been long discontinued and you may even find it difficult to locate proper support even from their own creator, Minolta. Well, this site was created to serve and supplement (not compete) all existing owners and potential buyers, you may use this site for common support and share experience wherever it relates. I live in Kenya, & I am trying to find a place that will repair my Minolta X-700. Apparently it needs a new electrical componant as the photo numbers will not advance. I am unable to get one here. Can anyone advise me as to who may stock such a part? I can get it fitted here, just not the part. Thanks Sue Anderson2. From : Alex (biggusignoramus@yahoo.co.uk)

My father owns a minolta x-700 and he had bought a suntax 9000 quick flash. Keeping with the times I invested in a digital camera - the canon eos 300D. I was wondering if anytbody out there knows if this flash is compatable with the 300D. I asked Suntax but they informed me that the present Suntax was taken over in 1997 and they don't have any information on models made prior. As is I'm not daring trying the flash on the camera's hotshoe. Cheers Alex3. From : Marcelo Santiago (santiagom@pioneernrc.com)

I am the proud owner of a Minolta Maxxum 7000 which I bought back in 1986. With this camera I took nearly all the photographs I've taken in my life. But after almost 20 years of intensive use, the 7000 is just dying on me. A number of problems have appeared almost at the same time during the past year or so. Like many others, I'd like to move on to digital (the 7D looks great) but unfortunately it's still too expensive for me. So, I'm planning to get another 135 mm SLR body and leave my digital plans for the future. Of all of the recent Minolta AF cameras, could you tell me which one would be more suitable for a Maxxum 7000 fan?4. From : Gerhard Barnard (gbarnard@za.safmarine.com)

The newspaper for which I work went digital a couple of years ago. Recently someone dug out a Minolta Maxxum 7000i and dropped it on my desk. It focuses fine and the electronics seem to be OK. It will shoot one frame, but on the second shot the shutter locks up and HELP appears on the LCD display. I can reset the shutter by removing the battery, but the same sequence of events occurs. Any 7000i users know what's going on? If I can get it to work I'm putting it on eBay with a 28-85 lens (3.5-4.5) and a 3500xi flash. Thanks.6. From : Isa Ismail (isa_writer@yahoo.com)

When I inherited my dad's 7000 the AF no longer worked but it still took great pics on manual focus. I also bought myself a Dynax 505si three years ago. However, now the 7000 refuses to start up and the folks at Minolta Malaysia have turned me away citing that they no longer make the parts for this great camera. Like many Minolta SLR owners I'm also planning to get a digital SLR. But it doesn't make any sense to spend so much cash on the new Dynax7D if Minolta does not want to fix its flagship cameras 20 years down the road.
Please advise me on how to get the 7000 fixed. Thanks.7. From : Leon (zero2k@ausi.com)

Hi. I just bought the X-700 from eBay and there seems to be some sort of mechanical problem and I'd like to know if this is indeed a problem or not. Basically whenever I advance the frame with the lever, it sets the diaphragm pin to stop the lens down, regardless of what mode I'm in. So I have to do all the metering and composition before advancing the frame since it gets dark. Is this natural behaviour or do I have a bodged up camera? The shutter timing seems to work fine, so too with other functionality. BTW, I noticed something funny. If I push the Depth-of-field preview button whilst advancing the frame, the lens won't stop down at all, even when the shutter is pressed. I do see someone has tampered with certain components of the camera as the piece of black plastic around the lens mount of the camera is no longer glued in and has a bad scathing to it. Any help would be great, and any possibility of getting it fixed/tuned somehow would be ideal. Thanks Leon8. From : RUSSELL J TOUCHET (cen94512@mail.centurytel.net)

I have a maxxum 7000 that I purchased in 1987. It has a 35-70mm auto focus lens. This a great camera except for the last 3 or 4 years. It fail to fire the flash and operated the shutter. Just last week I was shoting soume black and white film and on a 24 exp roll I only got 12 exposures. You can hear the shutter noise but it does expose the picture. I'm now interested in a digital camera in the SLR size, which is quite an investment. I really do not want to purchase a camera that just works when it wants. I've taken it to the repair shop and they can't find the problem. I am a Minolta fan. PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks.9. From : daniel (daniel_scamp@msn.com)

can anybody tell me whether the Minolta X700 and the Maxxum 7000 have the same bayonet? Does one objective fit for both? I know a dealer who sells microscope adapters for SLR cameras. He has an adapter for a Maxxum 7000 but I have a Minolta X700. Therefore I would like to know whether it will fit. Thank you very much. Anneliese
