With the cover of the battery compartment removed, you will expose a metal plate that is attached to the camera body by several tiny Philips (+) screws. The lithium (2025) button battery is located behind this small plate. Remove the 6 screws, keeping them arranged so that you replace them in order in their original positions. Now you can access and replace the battery so that the memory for various settings and the LCD display is retained when you change the AA or AAA alkaline batteries.

Yvonne, if the LCD in the viewfinder is completely dead, but the data display panel works, most likely cause is a break in the power circuit to the panel. You can try changing the CR2016 backup battery, but normally if the lithium backup cell was dead, both displays would malfunction or become inoperative. If the LCD panel is 'bleeding' or blurry, this is non-repairable and the LCDs on most old 7000/7000i cameras are starting to fail anyway at this point in time. If the camera has a warranty, by all means return it and get a refund. The 7000 is getting pretty old in the tooth and there are a lot faster and more capable 35mm cameras out there at reasonable cost.

Hi,
I was wondering if you could help me.I'm very new to SLR photography & I have just purchased a secondhand Minolta 7000, but I can't get the LCD display in the viewfinder to work. Is this something I'm doing wrong, or is it a fault with the camera. The data display panel works fine & the camera does have a warranty. How essential is this viewfinder to taking good photos?
I found your site a great help in working out how to use the camera.

Hi Guys, Can anyone provide a decent sort of image of the inside of the camera back of a Minolta X-700 showing the location of the lightproofing material (black spongy type stuff). I would like to know if it is applied to just the hinge side or both sides.

This may not be of interest to everyone so please reply direct.

TIA

Norman

I have a 7000i where the clasp that locks the focusing screen bracket has broken. I have a spare body - not working, but has the necessary part which appears to be part of the prism casing. I am looking for a repair guide to detail how to do the repair. I would also consider a recommendation for a shop who would do this repair. Although showing its age - not in condition, only in performance compared to my newer cameras - this camera has been a favorite. I'd like to save it. Thanks in advance.
