Each of these three featured Minolta SLR camera models represent an era of its own to lead and has great influence over the entire photographic community. Gordon - Regarding the note to you below, I meant to say you should look at Sean's note to me. Sorry - it's past my bed time...
Sean - Is the problem in the lens, the body or both when the aperture doesn't open up?

Gordon: You may want to look through the shutter with no film in the camera to see if the aperture is opening up properly when you release the shutter. (If you don't know how to do this, put the shutter on B or a long shutter speed and look through the open back of the camera.) Our Maxxum 7000 lenses stay at the smallest aperture no matter what f-stop they are set on. You may want to look at Gordon's note to me dated September 18th.

Marcy: Although an exceptional camera in it's day the 7000 is some pretty old equipment. The 7000's are now failing more than just about any other camera bodies I see coming in for repair. The weakness lies in the apeture stop down solenoid which just dies and is expensive to repair, parts no longer available.

Can anyone tell me if the Minolta Dynax 7000i has an infrared LED film counter as I would like to try mono infrared film and it may fog the film.

Dan, that cam adjustment may release the shutter, but won't correct a dirty shutter or release magnet mechanism. If you haven't had the camera cleaned or lubricated for years, it's probably time to do so. You don't want to operate the shutter with dried-up lubricant. Repair shop can check the shutter timing as well.

answering my own post... searching the archive I found an article from '02, there is a simple cam adjustment under the base, which took care of the curtain problem. This camera is old but this is the only issue I have ever had with it, I will use it for along time yet I believe. I work at an auto repair shop, and like cars, these are machines that will last a lot longer with regular cleaning maintainance.

I purchased a Maxxum 7000 used and it consistently underexposing so that I cannot get a correct exposure. The first roll only had 3 shots do this but subsequently its become worse. It has a 35-70mm lens. Could it be the lithium battery? The displays all show the proper exposure but its not taking the right exposure at all.

RE: X-series bodies malfunction issues

The X-300/270/570/700 were designed for amateur use and at this point are beginning to show their age. If you have tried fresh, correct batteries and are still experiencing problems, there may be other gremlins.

These cameras have a real problem with poor-quality capacitors that generally fail after a few years. If your camera shutter/mirror have locked, fresh batteries won't operate the mechanism, the capacitors probably need replacing. Often the nearby circuit board will need cleaning/replacement as well as leaked electrolyte may have damaged the circuits, sometimes the circuit board is cracked also. You may be able to find the capacitors at an electronic or radio supply house, but you will need to be good with a soldering iron and not intimidated by electronic camera disassembly. Film advance problems on the X-series may come from bits of film jamming advance, the previously mentioned electronic or shutter module problems, or a damaged film transport mechanism, which on these cameras is fairly light duty (plastic components).. You can replace with plastic gears from another parts camera. Shutter sticking (partial frame photos) on the these cameras may result from oil migrating onto the shutter magnets, combined with dirt, it gunks up the mechanism. A good CLA by a repair shop should fix this problem, clean out all the old dried lubricant, and lubricate dry components to reduce wear. X-700s made in china may suffer from adhesive failure resulting in loose cloth curtains that jam the shutter - these need re-gluing. Also, the shutter on the X-370s are known for jumping off-track.

The X-700/X-570/X-370 can also have flash problems. This is usually repaired by a new circuit board robbed off a donor body. Do NOT ever use an older 'high-voltage' electronic flash unit on one of these bodies as it will fry the circuitry double-quick.

HTH, Ron.

We have a Minolta Maxxum 7000 that hasn't been used in several years. The shutter is fully functional but none of the lenses stop down. Has anyone else has this problem? Any idea if it can be fixed?

Any help is appreciated, since I want to give this system to a friend.

Does anybody have a Maxxum 7000i that's being parted out? I'm in need of the eye piece -- mine snapped off and it was lost forever. I want to donate my camera to a local school, but I need the eyepiece first.

any help is hugely appreciated.
