Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Minolta X-700 | Maxxmum 7000 | Dynax 7000i - Guestbook/Message Board

Each of these three featured Minolta SLR camera models represent an era of its own to lead and has great influence over the entire photographic community. Unlike the two great Minolta cameras of yesteryears in the XK/XM/X1 and the XD-7, these newer series of Minolta classic served a different segment of users. Unfortunately, these bodies have been long discontinued and you may even find it difficult to locate proper support even from their own creator, Minolta. Well, this site was created to serve and supplement (not compete) all existing owners and potential buyers, you may use this site for common support and share experience wherever it relates. I'm looking for a place to repair my husband's Grandfather's Minolta X-700. He doesn't want to go digital because the LOVES this camera and has invested so much in lenses and equipment for it. He's having a problem with the Shutter. He has to press the button twice for it to take a pic and the pic clarity is way off from a while back he states. I'm in Birmingham Alabama and am willing to ship to a Authorized Minolta repair center. Please advise!!
Thanks
April Ray

I have three Minolta Maxxum 7000 bodies and 2 Canon AE-1 Program bodies as well as various lenses for each of them. I inherited them from my grandfather, who used to be something of an amateur photographer. Anyone have any idea on the value of this equipment were I to sell it? Also, I would like to keep on set of equipment, either the AE-1s or the Maxxums for my personal use. I am new to photography and would like any advice on which is a better system optically and user-friendly wise.

Sam, It's not all that uncommon to see the LCD partially working. If your's is flawed, replacment is the solution. But a aword of caution before spending money. In some cases the LCD not working properly can be the result of other problems or maybe even abuse/neglect, ever so slight or not. Make sure the camaera is full functioning in every regard or you may be throwing good money after bad. Did you hear about the guy who dropped a maxxum in the salt water of the ocean? http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00CsNL This is why I inspect used cameras I buy with great detail. Good luck. Dennis

Donald, if AF body goes wrong, you can nothing do to repair it. cause it is very complex mechanism, I recommend you to rush to repairman, or just get a new body.
Gabby, the BEST telephoto zoom lense you can find is AF 70-210 f4. try to find it in eBay. 70-210 f3.5-4.5 is rather compact.
JFPickel, Maxxum 7000 worth 20-50USD, but you may find price at eBay.

Hello everyone, question is, why does my Minolta 7000i Dynax camera automatically rewind after getting to the second frame. I have wasted a couple of rolls of film trying to figure it out. Please help. Thanks!

RE: X-series bodies malfunction issues The X-700/X-370 has top and bottom capacitors that generally fail after a few years. If your camera shutter/mirror have locked, fresh batteries won't operate the mechanism, the capacitors probably need replacing. Often the top circuit board will need cleaning/replacement as well as leaked electrolyte may have damaged the circuits. You may be able to find the capacitors at radio shack but you will need to be good with a soldering iron and not intimidated by electronic camera disassembly. Film advance problems on the X-700 may come from a damaged film transport mechanism, which on the X-700 is fairly light duty (plastic components).. You can replace with plastic gears from another parts X-700. Shutter problems on the X-700 may result from oil migrating onto the shutter magnets, combined with dirt, it gunks up the mechanism. A good CLA by a repair shop should fix this problem. X-700s made in china may suffer from adhesive failure resulting in loose cloth curtains that jam the shutter - these need re-gluing. Also, the shutter on the X-370s are known for jumping off-track.

The X-700/X-570/X-370 can have flash issues problems. This is usually repaired by a new circuit board robbed off a donor body. Do NOT ever use an older 'high-voltage' electronic flash unit on one of these bodies as it will fry the circuitry double-quick.
HTH, Ron.
