Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
Each of these three featured Minolta SLR camera models represent an era of its own to lead and has great influence over the entire photographic community. Unlike the two great Minolta cameras of yesteryears in the XK/XM/X1 and the XD-7, these newer series of Minolta classic served a different segment of users. Unfortunately, these bodies have been long discontinued and you may even find it difficult to locate proper support even from their own creator, Minolta. Well, this site was created to serve and supplement (not compete) all existing owners and potential buyers, you may use this site for common support and share experience wherever it relates. Hi guys. I recently got handed an old Minolta 7000 AF (according to some Googling, it is the first integrated AF lens/body kit in the world). I don't really know very much else about the camera. It seems to work. HOWEVER there is a fungus problem. It was not kept well. I cleaned what I could on the outside but the lens definitely has fungus inside. It's a 28 to 135 lens. I think it came standard. So, is this thing worth fixing? Should I just sell it for whatever I can get it for, or do I have a gem in my hands? (I already have a Nikon body and primarily use my M42 kit actually). Or should I get the fungus cleaned and keep the 7000 since it's not worth much on the market? Any advice appreciated.4. I am sorry to bother you but you seem very knowledgeable about this camera. May I please ask you a question? I was taking photos and right in the middle of a role, just as I pressed the shutter release, the camera winding mechanism froze and "help" began flashing in the LED. I cannot do anything at all with the camera (forced rewind, on/off...). Do you have any ideas? Thanks so much for any help you can give. Regards, Harry5. From : nellie (junerose365@netscape.net)

Anna: On your 7000AF the aperture stopdown solenoid is most likely gone, it is a frequent failure item and there are no longer any new replacements. I suspect the man who sold it to you was well aware of the defect, which is why he got rid of it.
Alan: you should try scrolling down a few posts and see what Ron regularly posts about the X-700 and its (numerous) problems):
"RE: X-series bodies & Malfunction Issues
The X-300/370/570/700 were designed for amateur use, were built with average quality components, and at this point are beginning to show their age. Note that internal components were further cheapened over the years, especially after production was offshored outside of Japan. I do not recommend buying them off ebay unless they have been proven to be recently serviced and guaranteed to work. IF you have installed fresh, correct batteries and are still experiencing problems, there may be other gremlins. These cameras can have a real problem with poor-quality electrolytic capacitors that generally begin to leak and fail after a few years. If your camera shutter/mirror have locked, fresh batteries won't operate the mechanism, the capacitors may need replacing. When the caps leak they cause the printed area of the board to short out, in some cases destroying the circuit entirely. If the camera has power, but when the shutter release is pressed the led display blanks out and doesn't come on that most likely the problem is the shutter release capacitor. If the led does not come on at all than it could be the top capacitor. If the LED display blinks when the shutter release button is pressed or if it just stays lit than the problem is not a capacitor problem but a break in an integrated circuit.
The easiest way to tell if a cap needs to be replaced is to examine the base. Some early X-700s also have tantalum caps that are usually ok, but you are looking for the electrolytic versions. Check the base of the cap, if it is electrolytic and going bad often there will be some signs of leakage, possibly corrosion, or odor. Leaking capacitors smell like ammonia. After removing the cap, clean the board in rubbing alcohol. Film advance problems on the X-series may come from bits of film jamming advance, the previously mentioned electronic or shutter module problems, or a damaged film advance mechanism, which on these cameras is fairly light duty (plastic components).. You can replace with parts from another parts camera.
Shutter malfunctions and shutter sticking (partial frame photos) on the these cameras may result from oil migrating onto the shutter magnets, combined with dirt, it gunks up the mechanism. A good CLA by a repair shop should fix this problem, clean out all the old dried lubricant, and lubricate dry components to reduce wear. Shutter magnets can usually be cleaned but sometimes lose their kick and must be replaced. Sometimes the fabric shutter curtains can stick the shutter in high humidity conditions. HTH, Ron."7. I have a question/problem with my Minolta 7000i, which I recently bought from a family aquantance. The light meter, no matter the lighting situation and no matter how many different aperature/shutter arangements I try, never tells me that my combination is right. I tried usuing shutter-priority, but my film came out entirely overexposed. When I tried using aperature priotity, the shutter speed that the camera set would make no sense, such as 5 seconds even though it was fairly light. The man I bought the camera from tells me that he never had a problem with the camera. What could possible be wrong?
