Each of these three featured Minolta SLR camera models represent an era of its own to lead and has great influence over the entire photographic community. Unlike the two great Minolta cameras of yesteryears in the XK/XM/X1 and the XD-7, these newer series of Minolta classic served a different segment of users. Cindy, when the Maxxum 7000 first came out the 'xx' in Maxxum were interlocking double x's. Exxon complained and Minolta changed the design to a non-crossed type, but was permitted to make the change gradually over time.

Given the large numbers made of this camera with the double-x, and the fact that few or no one is currently collecting Maxxums (AF 35mm cameras have very low demand these days) prices are not likely to go up for the 'crossed-x' Maxxum 7000 anytime soon. Any of these that do become collectible will need to be in the highest condition possible (mint or unused condition with no visible wear of any kind, all components in perfect working order, with manual and box in clean unworn condition)

I am looking to replace an old 2-peice case for a Minolta Maxxum 7000. My old one has model nos. CB-70 and CF-70. I have found one in good condition with the model nos. CB-72 and CF-72. Anyone know the difference? Will the CB(and CF)-72 fit my 7000 with AAA batteries? (I read that some 7000's have a AA or lithium battery compartent and the camera is thus wider that mine, and that the case for that one is "73".)

Does any one remember an optional digital back that was offered for the 7000? Back then it cost $2500 and attached to the camera just like the optional data backs. I told some one about it and they want more info for a paper they are going to write.

Ron, try scrolling down a few comments, there are complete instructions for replacing the lithium coin cell battery right on this page, if you look.

Thanks Ron and others for info; I don't think I will fix the 7000 but wonder if there is a lens adaptor for Nikon or Canon EOS; in which case maybe I will consider cleaning the lens.

What is the advantage of using a lithium battery over the other selections? I notice that the lithium is much more expensive. Les

KEH.com is selling excellent Minolta 7000/7000i bodies for $89-$95 in excellent shape, they go for less on ebay, but to each his own.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a 7000 or 7000i Minolta. Certainly one that hasn't been recently serviced and guaranteed to work. The autofocus is very slow and hunts, the aperture stopdown and AF components are getting old and starting to break (and parts aren't available anymore) and the LCD display has a fixed lifetime - many are starting to bleed or go inoperative.

A newer secondhand Maxxum or Dynax 7 might be a much better idea if you're planning on investing in the Minolta system.
