I purchased an F3hp a few days ago from a local camera store. Based on the serial number (1599518) does anyone have a clue as to when this camera may have been manufactured?

Check the KEH Camera Brokers website (www.KEH.com). Their prices are probably somewhat higher than you could get on an outright sale, but it will give you a rough estimate. A lot depends on the condition of the lens. Walt

Hi, I have a F3Thp that was bought way back in the 80's. Recently I noticed that shutter gets stuck. I have replaced batteries, but still there is a delay and sometimes when the shutter button is kept pressed, the shutter will remain open. Please help. Thanks.

Unless the camera has some sentimental value, or it's in exceptionally good condition, I believe I would just buy another one. They are available from KEH Camera brokers for about $275 US (slightly over 200 euros)in Ex condition. KEH's ratings are usually quite conservative, so I suspect you would find one rated as Ex to be in very good condition. Try them at www.keh.com Regards, Walt

The aperture coupling ring on my F3 doesn't function anymore. This means I can only use stopped-down metering. My local dealer (the Netherlands) states it is possible to repair for around 200 euros, which is too much for me, since prices for used F3's are low.

Would it be a good idea to try and fix the aperture ring coupling by myself? I've got the F3 repair manual. Any ideas on what is the best approach? thanks, Pim

The only difference between the F3 and the F3HP is that the prism on the F3HP is larger due to the high-eyepoint finder that allows you to see the full focusing screen wearing glasses. Other than that, the two cameras are identical. Walt

Hello. Is there any difference on the camera body between F3 and F3HP?

They say, "That time comes when ... ." Well, I suppose, for me, you could say "That time has come."
After thirty-five years of enjoying the purchase and use of Nikon cameras, Nikon flashes, Bowens studio lighting, Nikkor and Nikon lens, motor drives, various filters, etc., the time has come for me to "get real" about the notion that I can't take the stuff with me, no matter how much I love it. So, I am preparing to put all my equipment (which is quite a collection, as compared to that a normal person might garner through life) on the auction block.

My four Nikon cameras (F/1974, F3, F4, and EM) form the foundations around which my entire collection is built. Presently, I am photographing all the equipment as best I can to demonstrate the pride I have exercised in keeping my equipment in clean and faultless working condition. I can honestly say: If I were in the market for a nice piece of used equipment I would be unrealistic to think I would find any in better condition than that which I am selling. The collection, as a whole, really is a testament to careful and prideful ownership.

So, given my intentions — to sell my entire collection, I am soliciting advice from those of you, fellow nikonians, who may care to share your knowledge and experience in selling equipment through internet auction. If you feel you know some obscurities of the process that would benefit my selling of the equipment, I would greatly appreciate your sharing that knowledge with me. Maybe more importantly, I want to give potential buyers the kind of information they need to have confidence in my integrity, and the true character and integrity of the equipment they may be interested in purchasing. I would like for each purchaser to be surprised in only one way — that the equipment condition, mechanically and aesthetically, exceeds their expectations. I look forward to any advice you may choose to share. For you to take the few minutes it will take to share your thoughts will be most kind; and, I assure you I will be most appreciative. Thank you for taking time to read this posting. Bob Fillpot.
