To All: Terrific Site! I just bought a 20-year old F3 that's in great shape for its age. It's been well cared for and I'd like to keep it that way without having to spend $100 every few years. Any recommendations on a book or pdf file that describes and shows standard CLA procedures for the F3? Also, does anyone have a copy of the manual in pdf format they could e-mail to me?

To Dale: Do you mean for the first few frames of a new roll of film or in the middle of a roll? If it is the former, that is normal and the meter will work correctly when the counter reads '1'. If it goes to 1/80 somewhere in the middle, something is not right unless you have a F3 dedicated flash (e.g SB-12, SB-17) switched 'on' or the shutter speed dial set at 'x'. Hope this helped.

Hi Everyone, i have been enjoying this site, and now I have a question. My F3 ( with md-4) will occasionally "lock" on 1/80 for a shutter speed, for no apparent reason. then it will come to its senses after a couple frames... any ideas? Thanks, dale

To e vail (again): ALMOST FORGOT! You are turning on the camera by rotating the collar around the release to reveal the red dot, aren't you? Thought that maybe you may not know this without a manual.

To e vail: You say the meter doesn't work but does the shutter fire? If its all dead, it indicates an electrical short somewhere in the battery compartment. Could be as simple as corrosion (its sometimes clear and transparent) or a disconnected wire requiring that the body be cracked open to repair. (by an experienced repair person!) Take a pencil eraser and use it to rub the contacts and try again.

Mark, As an outdoor photographer myself, I can tell you there are tons of choices these days. One light and inexpensive one is the E series nikkor 75 - 150mm zoom. It takes really sharp pics and can be had for under $100. Depending on what type of animals you might go after a 300mm f4.5 prime would be more in order, and add a X1.4 TC for small birds. Have fun on dry land!

Merlie, I have a F301/N2000 that I purchased new in 1987. What buttons/controls are you referring to? On the front of the camera body there is a self timer button (10 sec I think). The small lever that seems to be attached to the self timer is actually an Auto Exposure Lock Lever. This lever allows you to meter on a subject and recompose off subject without losing the metering. Let me know what other controls you have questions about. By the way, my N2000 has been very reliable, no shop time since new. At the current prices I've seen on ebay and from camera discounters, I think its quite a buy.

Mark Nellis: This Malaysian site has a MARVELOUS new content in the making. You can first check at this link (The Nikkor zoom lenses at the longer focal length is not ready yet, but I would suggest you to bookmark it first): http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/zoomsMF/index.htm
In relation to your question, my personal vote is to go for the 35-135mm Nikkor zoom. Naturally, there are plenty of newer AF Nikkor zooms that you can used with your Nikon F3 (EXCEPT and AVOID buying the G-series AF Nikkors) OR you can even look for alternatives from 3rd party lens producers such as Sigma, Tamron and Tokina. Cheers !!!

Having recently aquired an F3 body, could somebody kindly recommend a good all round zoom lens for it. I am used to the Nikonos 5 underwater camera being a scuba diver, but would now like to try my hand at land based wildlife photography. Help would be appreciated as I am a relative novice to land photography. Many thanks Mark
