Hi Dennis, I leave my F3 switched on throughout even long sessions, only switching it off when I'm putting the camera away. Batteries last me at least 2 or 3 years. I never use the 'red button' viewfinder light. So I reckon there's only current drain for 16 seconds a pop. HTH Chris

Hello everybody, need your advise on the on/off switch on the F3? Does it use battery when the switch is on but the shutter is not depressed and LCD is blank? Or do we have to swtich on and off every time we use it? Can I just leave the switch on all the way and when the lcd goes off in 16 seconds, it is not consuming betteries? Does it work this way? Thanks in advance!

To Eric: Adapter for mounting medium format lenses to Nikon 35 mm cameras are either available from Zoerkendoerfer, Novoflex, or Heliopan. All three companies are based in Germany. The adapters should be available from B&H or Adorama in the US. Prices somewhere between 50 und 150 $.

I've just acquired a Vivitar F3 Flash adaptor and would like to use it with my SB-28 & F3HP. Now, looking through the archives, it would appear that this will not work in TTL mode, it's something to do with the 4th pin on the SB-28 foot that needs a signal the F3 can't provide. But will manual and auto work? When the SB-28 is mounted on the adaptor, the 4th pin is shorted to ground - is this OK? Will the SB-28 be damaged? What is the effect of isolated the 4th pin (say with a bit of tape)? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Phil

I understand that there is an adapter for the f3 that will let you use mamiya, bronica and hasselblad medium format lens on the camera. What is the name and/or product number of this adapter? Does any one where they can be found or how much they cost? Thanks, Eric

thanks Kevin, i reckon i'll heed your advice. iam taking the f3 to the local camera shop tomorrow and have them test my light meter against one of there hand held ones... anyway i will see about sending the f3 in for the repairs you suggested... i guess this comes under the status of a general overhaul? thanks again for your prompt advice. marc

Hi Marc, For the good of both you and your camera, please don't attempt to glue that ring! This is a fairly common problem and is really a simple repair...for a qualified tech. The glue won't work and will only complicate matters...and increase the repair charge. Most F3's need shutter service, light seals and mirror cushions replaced anyway, so it's better to just get it all done at once. A small price to pay for another 10 or 20 years of use, right Kevin (Nikonmaster)

broken F3hp part... dear F3 list, i just discovered my on and off switch (little black lever/washer thingy) just below the shutter release is SPLIT! is this a send to the authorized dealer problem or can i some how remove the metal top and film advance lever to get at the broken black plastic washer/lever? if so i can easily epoxy the split part... any ideas would be welcome... this is an old camera and looks to have been very robustly used... tho it takes great pictures. thanks, marc

I would like to get in touch with the present owner of a Nikon F3HP serial # 1695200 I sold sometime in 1988 in Kuala Lumpur. It was the second F3 I owned and now I am trying to locate all the equipment I once had for collecting purposes (in whatever condition it is in now). Email me at the above email address. Thanks.

Bill
When the plastic old-style memory-lock buttons pop out, there are no additional parts involved. No springs or clips etc, hold it in, just pressure on the shaft of the button!
Replacement is optional...
Kevin(NM)
The new-type button has a small clip on the end of the shaft
-much better design...
