Leonard has published a recent correspondence with Nikon Japan relating to a request for servicing a damaged Nikon F3 from Bangladesh, see: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/messageboard/fmseriesmsg/index.php3 For those of you residenced in country that has NO Nikon representation, that serves as a good guide just in case one day, your camera broke down in a remote place at planet Earth...

Jorgen
I'm pretty sure you won't get 5X without bellows (or some massive extension) and your lens to subject distance won't be very great.
The shorter the focal length of the lens the greater its magnification when reversed. Hence a 50mm (normal) lens reversed actually gives a marginally bigger magnification than a 55mm Micro reversed.
Hope this helps somwhat.
Cheers
Jon

I have an F3 manual that I would be willing to post/sell, but it doesn't contain much info that I would call terribly useful, even to an amateur. If you have specific questions, I would be willing to field them, as I have been using the F3s since 1980.

Dear all,

Help needed:

I have a Nikon F3 with a Micro Nikkor 55 mm 2.8 which gives me 0.5X without extension tubes and ca. 1.4X with 58 mm extension tube. I can not increase the length of the extension tube because the subject to lens distance becomes very small, which makes proper lighting of the subject by my Vivitar Macroflash 5000 (ring-flash) difficult. I am interested in photographing small flowers and insects, so I would like to get 5X if possible. I want to ask if someone on the list has experience with reverse mounting a Micro Nikkor? I also have a standard Nikkor 50 mm 1.4 - does this lens give better image quality when reversed? Can I stack a 135mm 3.5 lens on a reversed mounted lens? What magnification and image quality can I expect? Does anyone know of online stores that sell the adapters needed? If you can answer one or more of these questions, please respond.

Thanks, Jorgen Lissner, Noelev Byvej 38, DK-8300 Odder, Denmark

I agreed with you. I have been cursing the design since bought my F3 back in mid-eighties. I bought a MD-4 then and have not been too troubled by it since the on/off can be controlled on the motor drive. I have stripped the motor drive a few years back and go back to lightweight basic; strangely, after using it for quite a while, it has got "seasoned" and it is quite easily to manipulate the on and off now. Officially, Nikon claimed two button cells will last about a year, I had mine changed 8 months ago, it is still working.

What is the expected normal battery life for an F3HP and how much is that decreased if you don't ritually switch off the camera after each use? Is there a preferred battery type for increased life (Lithium?).

I ask because that on/off switch is such a pain to use. I can't believe Nikon designed this fine camera which is all about quality and feel and then to expect the user to fight with the on/off switch each time you pick the thing up. I know an MD4 would remove the need to use the body switch but I dont really want the weight of the MD4 for now. Does anyone have any views on this? Thanks Phil

Hello All, I just bought an F3HP here in China...I accidentally distintegrated my last camera in an accident while doing fieldwork here. The problem is that it was used, and I have no instruction manual for it.

I desperately need to know if there is some site where I can get a copy of the F3HP instructions in PDF format. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance. Kevin

I was just about surfing a little, lookin for some information of a "brand new used" SB16 speedlight when found this site. I've bought an F3HP in 1996 and from them this camera is my all time company. In 2000 I've bought a completely N90 equipment (camera body, lenses, mb10 grip and so on). Some months ago, I was oblied to seel one of my cameras. Then I've decide to sell my F3. When I was offer it to sell, something inside told me no to sell it but, instead, to sell the F90. So I've done it.

That moment I knew that it was impossible for me to sell my F3HP. I'm a professional photograph in Brasil. Very offen look others using Cannons AE, Nikons F4, F5, very useful, certainly, but still i don't change my old and loveble F3HP.

We live the digital world, but to look the world from a F3 view finder has something still magical. Congratulations for this amazing and excelent website. No doubt's about it Nikon Corp. should thanks You every click on this site. Eduardo Grigaitis São Paulo - Brasil

Barry, Comtact John White at www.AIConversions.com His prices are so reasonable that I wouldn't attempt to do it myself ( I think he charges $25 for most lenses). He also has a fairly rapid turn-around, 3-4 days, I think. I think he's in Michigan. Walt
