I just received the PK-13 tube and was wondering how you determine what shutter speed to use since you cannot see the f-stop? And at what f-stop should be used?

Just wanted to tell you that this is a great site. I just got a used F3 because my old FTn was givng out after 30 years. Could not find what I needed to know at Nikon.com but this site answered almost every question. I read all 500 messages. The manual is wonderful. I also visited two sites recommended in the messages and plan to do business with them. This is one of the most helpful sites that I have ever found on the web. A lot of people seem to be looking for various accessories. If they go to Ebay, cameras, Nikon, and then search "F3", almost everything turns up there sooner or later.

Dan Leibovitz: Someone has claimed that he has tried to reach you twice but both attempts failed (emails bounced). Kindly mail our co-maintainer Mr. MC Lau (mclau@pc.jaring.my) to rectify it, he may has a solution to your request posted on the board. Thanks.

I admire your web sites immensely. I recently acquired 2 cameras:
an F3 HPT and an F3 P and the MD-4 motordrive and the MF-18 data back. I would be grateful if any of you who had previously downloaded the "private" .pdf versions of manuals for any of these 3 items to e-mail them to me at my (unlimited space)internet service e-mail address: kingoroontheroad@msn.com

Thank you in advance! I am new to your message board, but I will enjoy reading it from now. Best wishes...

Hi everybody. I have enyoyed my used F3 hp since I got it from Ebay back in July. I can now vouch for it and amazed of its accurate metering system which is 80/20, somewhat of close to a spot metering system. One thing I found annoying is the slow shutter speed for flash. SO far ok for me but prefer for a faster one. Maybe Nikon can take this great model back to production with an improved shutter? But we doubt it because of high cost in production cost?
Anyhow I need some advise from readers who have ample experience with Nikon's 180 mm AF ED 2.8. I am drawn by its focal length and sharpness. I do plan to get one someday and maybe someone can tell me more of its legendary performance. THey cost like $400 in ebay, thanks.

Jon, the databack which imprints the date between the frames is the MF-18, which also leaves the film leader out, somewhat like a cross between the MF-14 (but with the data printed between theframes) and the MF-6B, which leaves the film leader out. The MF-18 is rather rare. Hope that helps.

I am hoping someone can provide some info I can't seem to get a straight answer for.....
I have two genuine Nikon publications and one says that a MF-14 data back imprints the data in the film corner and the other (later date) says that it can imprint the data between frames......
Whats the deal???
Is there a MF-14 and a MF-14A or has the later publication made a typo?
All the info I have suggests the data is imprinted in the frame only.
Any clarification would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Jon

From information I have, your camera dates from late 1988 or early 1989. Since Nikon doesn't keep records on manufacturing date vs serial number, I can't get any more accurate than that.
