To Thomas: There should be no difference in quality between 'grey import' models as opposed to 'officially imported' models. Perhaps the only consideration is product warranty since official importers may not honour the warranty of products not imported by them. RozKL

To Scott: For features, the F80 gives you plenty. But if you have manual lenses and intend to use with it,the the F80's built-in light meter will not function. The F3 on the other hand is relatively durable; and modular in design with lots of accessories to go with any photographic assignments such as close-up work using bellows etc. You'll find a wealth of info in the F3 series within this website. The F80 allows you to use the latest Nikkor AF lenses, and its flash system is more advanced to tackle difficult lighting conditions with ease. Accessories are limited and its film advance speed is not as fast as the F3 if you like to shoot fast action sequence photographs. RozKL

Greetings any and all! I have a question that someone here can probably answer. I'm trying to decide between the purchase of an F3 or an N80. I currently have an FM20 and a 4004s. I am loking for a more full-featured camer that can "expand" my creativity and will also take good B&W photos as well. I have no real area of specialty as far as what I shoot. Pros and cons??? Thanks for any help! Scott

When buying a body, such as the F series or FM series, what should be considered when comparing import models to non-import? I have noticed a difference in price...is there a difference in quality? component compatability? warranty?

I am not sure then and neither want to try. Frankly, unless you need cold resistance performance but use of Alkaline is the most cost efficient way with a F3/MD4 (you do know it takes over the power supply for the F3, don't you ?) - and it is almost seemingly will last forever (officialy, it can deliver 36 x 140 rolls with just 6 alkalines for normal usage at constant room temperature !). Even if it is near depletion, it can still takes pictures except the continuous burst rate will be affected. Great stuffs !

Thanks for the info, but still a question: does this apply for NiCd AA batteries? That is, not the NiCd Power pack, but separate batteries.

Pim: Nicd (MN-2) cells are supposedly designed to offer peak performance with the MD4/F3 combination. It offers 5.5 fps burst rate and up to 6 fps with mirror lock up. It performs better in cold than the alkalines too. Check this page:

USE OF RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES IN MD-4 Is it possible to use rechargeable (NiCd) batteries instead of alkaline batteries? How does it affect the speed of the motordrive? regards, Pim Pullens
