You can find a digital back for the F3 right now in Ebay. Someone is auctioning it.

To Steve T. Clark: I have a similar problem with my F3. However, the problem only occurs when I use a 28-300 Tamron zoom (the new XR series)in low light situations and with a small aperture. If I use older prime lenses such as the Tamron 90 SP f2.5, a Nikkor prime lens, or a shorter zoom (28-70 f2.8) I don't have the problem. Also, the 28-300 seems to work fine in the A setting with a reasonable amount of light and not stopped down. I bought the 28-300 as a "do it all travel lens." However, if I had to do it again, I'd look for a faster shorter used Nikkor zoom.

Hello Kent, Just back from vacation so my comments on your problem may be late, however, I would be reluctant to purchase a camera with the fault you describe. Second-hand F3's come on to the market quite often, most dealers offer a short guarantee period and are not likely to sell faulty goods. I got my F3 on Ebay, I was a bit nervous about buying from an unknown source but it proved to be one of the best purchases I ever made. Superb camera, I've owned more than thirty cameras over the years, film and digital, the F3 is the best ever. Like others have stated I would never get rid of it. Search Ebay and dealers and I am sure you will find what you want. Good Luck. Regards, Gordon.

Since i tried another lense on my F3, the light metering doen´t work anymore. On ´automatic´ it doesnt respond to changes in diafragm, and on ´manual´ it only shows exposure times of 80 or lower than 80. I tried three different lenses and it shows the same problem for all three of them..... What might be the problem? please let me know.

There was one digital back made for the F3 series, but it was a few years back and was of very low resolution, if I recall correctly. Was quite expensive and was a low- production item, almost a prototype, if you will. I can't recall the name of the manufacturer.Walt

To Steve: Your problem sounds as if no light reaches the metering cell. Have you removed the lens cap, and controlled the aperture lamellae of your lens (perhaps they are stuck in the narrowest position) ? Also, did you check whether the mirror is in up position (when MLU activated) ? If not, there probably a defect in the mirror flip-up. Rgds. Hermann Graf

Hi folks I'm thinking about buying a Nikon F3 for $250.00 cdn, body is in mint condition. However there is a problem with the shutter speeds. Any speed from under 1/60sec is fine, any speed above 1/60 of a second remains at 1/60. What could be wrong? could this be an expensive fix? Thanks for your help.
