by the way, can anyone tell me how you can differentiate a F3HP from a non-HP. I have seen various pictures but can't see any difference

drussel, are you sure you have a F3. There is only 1! stroke necessary and you turn it on by the switch under the lever. Unless you have a model I don't kknow of. My old FTn did work as you mentioned here.

My F3's film advance lever will not completely advance the film. I can get one full lever stroke and then not the secondary partial one to allow the shutter and meter to be ready. The mechanical shutter trip still works, but I don't know if I'm getting a full frame shot. Is this a professional repair job or is there something I can do to fix.
I bought it new in the 80's and have had no other problems.

Hi guys, Great board ! My question is : I have seen some black paint Nikon F3 units that shown brassing after long use. Is the Nikon F3/T which has a different paint work from the normal version stands to last longer ? The site mentioned a champaign color F3, is it still available ? So far, I have not seen one from the window shelf, is that a limited edition unit ? Please shed some light on this, I can be very patience to look around for an unit for my private collection. Currently, I have a Nikon F w/F36, F2A/MD-1, FA/MD-15 and FM2/t/MD-12. Thanks.

I am truly delighted to have found this dedicated website for my beloved Nikon F3 via Google search. I am equally impressed by its rich content while on the other hand, I have almost read through page by page of the thousand messages posted. Over the years, I thought I have known my camera inside out until I've found the enormous amount of information hosting here. I am living in Pacific Island now and there are literally very few serious users over here while the Net is my means of reaching to others that share the same Nikon passion. Thanks to whoever that has created this site (as I cannot find the working e-mail to send my appreciation). Lastly, I have to thank all the people (the maintainers, in particular) that have been maintaining this section of the site in such a tip top condition, more power to Nikon !

SB-16 w/AS-9 related question. Hello, I've recently acquired an SB-16B for use with my FE-2. I cannot get the unit to function in TTL Mode. (What I mean to say is that when I am in TTL mode W/400 speed film and at a shutter speed of 250, I get a flashing LED in the FE2 viewfinder. I interpret this to mean that either my sync speed is too slow (it's not @ 250) or my film speed is out of range (it's not @400 ASA). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best, KC

Marco Aurelio: A few of the automatic Nikon bodies have quite a loose film advance lever especially when you rest them at the stand off position,(for example EM, FG and F3). Where I am not certain whether you are not comfortable with such behavior/design (when compared with other Nikon which has a more firm and positive film advance lever) but My two F3 behave similarly with many other F3 that I have checked here in Taiwan and I don't think there is any cause for worry. The F3, in particular can also perform multiple short strokes for proper film advance. F3 is the BEST !

my F3 has a loose film advance lever, i read in "Nikon Camera Repair Handbook" that the lever has four screw that hold it down, and to get to it you must unscrew the collar around the shutter release button, i tried to unscrew it by hand but it won't budge. I don't want to use pliers to remove it because i'm afraid i might damage something. how can i remove it to get to the screws? any advise will be greatly appreciated.
