To those who may be interested: The new Nikon F5 site is opened for preview now:
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/NikonF5/index.htm
The section has included some newer AF Micro-Nikkor optics at the MACRO segment (lacks good macro photos to bright up the pages, but I am talking to some for contributions). A dedicated Message Board is also provided. Enjoy.

I own a Nikon F3HP and the low light eyepiece (finder) does not illuminate when I press the tiny red square. What's the power source, what's the light source and how do i get this to work?
Thanx Bill

Scott, I use my MD-4 quite a bit with my F3HP, and haven't had any problem with the metering. It is true that when the MD-4 is attached, the power for the camera comes from the batteries in the MD-4 and not the camera battery (ies). It's possible that one of the spring-loaded connectors from the MD-4 to the camera is defective, and not making a good connection, and supplying a reduced voltage to the meter. Also check the MD-4 batteries for proper voltage. The motor drive will operate at voltages that would affect the meter operation. Walt

Has anyone ever had problems metering when using only the batteries in the motor drive to run the meter? I was told the 8 AA's in the motor drive would run the light meter in the camera effectively. However, after shooting several rolls of underexposed film, I tested my meter against another camera and was off by one stop. I took off the motor drive and installed batteries into the camera and now my meter is back in sync with his. Is my meter screwed up or has anyone else heard of this?

Hi Scott, I think u should shoot a roll of regular color print film; even 12 exp will work, then take it in for 1 hr processing, then u can tell if the shutter curtain or meter having problems or not. Sincerely, Kirk C

Scott,I think I'd get a second opinion on the shutter. The F3HP, being a professional-grade camera, has a shutter that's good for over 150,000 cycles, (that's 4166 rolls of 36-exp film) so it shouldn't be giving out unless the camera has had a lot of use.Regards, Walt

My wife got me a Nikon F3HP from E-bay for Christmas supposedly in perfect working condition. I brought it in for servicing and had the guy check everything for me to make sure it was in good working condition. He said everything checked out fine. I've taken and developed four rolls of film through it and most of my shots are underexposed. I'm also doing my own developing so the problem could potentially be a developer (D-76) problem. I checked the meter against someone more experienced in photography and it appears to be off by one stop, thus underexposing my film. However, I just brought it in to a camera shop to have the meter checked and he's telling me the meter is fine but the shutter needs replacing, that it's inconsistent and overexposing and underexposing at medium to high shutter speeds. Slow speeds seem to be fine he said. Is this guy just trying to rip me off? I don't have any shots that are overexposed except the shots that I bracketed. Should I start by doing some more meter testing or check my developer? I've got another two undeveloped rolls that I am hesitant to develop because I don't want to waste the shots. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

Hi Walt, Thx for the reply so quick, i learned fr my friend, if the lens, such as my 135/F3.5 has such a F-stop, i only have to keep it around F8 or F 11 to remain the sharpness; since I,ve been using all auto Canon EOS for a longtime. I bought my F3 used, so I really don,t know it,s service history, but I guess I will bring it in for a service; since the charge is not way high^^ Thx again for your reply. Best wishes, Kirk C
