Having problems with the F3HP MD-4. Sometimes the camera will not release the shutter. I have adequite power. I take the MD-4 off and release the shutter and then it works. Is there something that I am doing wrong or that I need to be aware of?

Robert, B&H Photo has a wide selection of diopters, www.BHPhotovideo.com But as I said, there is no 0.5+ for the F3HP. Walt

Robert, Nikon made a 0.5+ diopter correction lens for the F3, but not for the F3HP. The lowest available correction for the F3HP is the 1.0+. Walt

This is a superb site for any nikon owner; thank you very much for all your time and expertise. I came across it looking for advice on how to use the mirror lock facility on my F3. On my F3 with DE2 viewfinder the tiny square red button on the side of the DE2 is supposed to light up the LCD (so i understand) but it does not appear to have any effect when I touch/press it. Can you throw any light (no pun) on its function and how it works? Thanks again

Delhoux, First, if you don't have a manual for the camera, I would suggest you download a copy from this website. If you can't , you can e-mail me and I will send you a copy in .pdf format. You need to get a soft, preferably a microfiber, cloth and some good quality lens cleaner fluid. Using a Q-tip, or a cotton ball, moisten it with a little lens cleaner and clean the exterior of the eyepiece. Remove the prism (see the manual if you don't know how) and clean the glass on the underside with the cloth and a little fluid.

Remove the ground glass screen (again consult the manual for this procedure)and clean both sides with the cloth and a little fluid.

Get a bulb syringe, like you would use to clean a baby's ears and nose, and blow out the interior of the camera. DO NOT TOUCH THE SURFACE OF THE MIRROR WITH ANYTHING. If the mirror is dirty, take it to a repair shop for cleaning. The mirror surface is easily damaged, and any damage could affect the metering accuracy of the camera, since the meter works by measuring the light passing through tiny holes in the mirror surface. If the lens is clean, the dust in the viewfinder will not affect the pictures taken.

Irecently bought a used F3 Hp camera, cosmetically it is in pretty good shape. however when you look through the viewfinder, you see a lot of dust inside the viewfinder around the glass of the eyepiece. Can anybody tell me how to remove this dust? Can I open the viewfinder myself without risking permanent damage? thanks for your assistance

I would suspect that at shutter speeds of 1/60 or faster, the sound made by the mirror moving up and back down far overshadows the shutter sound, and since this is a fixed time period, it remains constant at the higher shutter speeds. Walt

Can SB-16A owners comment on their speedlight. I'm currently using a SB-15 attached to the AS-4 and would like to give TTL and secondary flash a try. My favorite online camera store (KEH.COM) currently has a bargain grade SB-16A for $72 that's tempting me. Mark :->

Nikon digital back. Nikon or should I say Kodak did in fact make a digital F3, I think it was called the DCS200 or possibly the DCS210. I see them on eBay from time to time. Anyone interested in a digital back for the F3 might want to email Kodak and see if you can download a spec sheet or owners manual. I downloaded the instruction manual for the Kodak DCS 460 last night because I'm thinking about shooting digital with a N90s mounted to the Kodak back, it gives you 6.0mp + 1.3 image magnification rather than the current 1.5 setup.
