Hello, I just bought my first Nikon F3 from B&H Photovideo. I also purchased a AI'd Micro Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 lens. I have never owned a Nikon before.

The problem I am having is that when I look through the viewfinder, I only see a circular image with everything else black. Would the knowledgeable members of this forum be kind enough to guide this novice in this matter?

Thanks,
Krishna

Yeap. They SHOULD have a SIMPLE digital camera such as this. No frills kind of controls FOR photographers. Simple as giving photographer a camera rather than making photos for photographers....peace.

Hello, this is a SUPER SITE on Nikon ! I have been using F3 (F3 Titanium) for the last two decades, reliable and even if I had jumped to the bangwagon of digital, I still use my F3 for personal works. This is perhaps one of the greatest SLR made for photographers as it is simple in basic essential function to take/create photos and ultra reliable. This is an awesome website on Nikon info !

Thanks for sharing and creating these lovely content. Regards, RW.

Sounds like a FRE issue. IF I can advise you, send back to Nikon as there are still parts for this (10 years support parts cycle not up yet). Nikon F3 can be the most desirable auto SLR of all time but as it is almost 30 years old and some may exhibit a little hickups here and there (not many cars such as wrok horse TAXI can last than long...). IT is modular and has only simple AE mode which is primarily a photographer's camera. It deserves a treat by a full service by the owner at times.

My F3 SN 1266549 I have for one year, worked properly until now. Exposure times are inaccurate in A as well as in manual mode. When listening to the shutter sometimes ok then again up to 4x as long as indicated.
As well with MD4 or without.
The thing I did prior to that tragedy: I tried a long time exposure in A mode with MD4. The shutter did not finish after half an hour, so I turned off the MD4 disattached from F3 turned power on and off then to X and released manually, to get out of the never ending exp.
Did I kill it? Any ideas, Thanks, Martin

The 1/80 issue: Make sure the film back is CLOSED. Next, here explained well with the scenario: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/htmls/index3.htm

Re: Waldon: My back up F3HP started acting up recently. The shutter speed indicator in the view finder is stuck at 80.

Keep in mind that when you just close the F3 film back and the film counter is not yet at the first frame, the shutter speeds will always show as 1/80th on the lcd. The same thing freaked me out too, but them I realized that once the film counter hits frame 1 then everything is fine. Nikon did this on purpose....it is a feature :) presumably to remind you not to take photos before the counter hits 1.

Cheers

Hi, I have a Nikon F3 and need to replace the foam light seals as they are getting tacky.I have managed to purchase a foam kit for $10. So, how easy is this to do? It looks straightforward except for replacing the foam at the rear edge of the mirror. Has anyone got any suggestions or tips?
Thanks
Mulholland

My back up F3HP started acting up recently. The shutter speed indicator in the view finder is stuck at 80. It doesn't change as I turn the shutter speed dial. Also, in the automatic mode it doesn't change with the aperature or by pointing to a light source.
