I'm a schoolgirl and have just received a Nikon F3 from my father. I'm not sure how to use this camera correctly. I'm looking for a Nikon F3 complete manual. I appreciate it.

I have a Nikon F3hp, and when shooting at high speeds, ie 1000 & 2000, I was getting a brighter patch in the centre, similar to vigneting. Apparently the shutter was dragging in the centre causing overexposure at these speeds. I had the shutter adjusted at a service center (twice) but the problem has re-occured. Does this usually indicate a need for a new shutter mechanism, and what is the approximate cost of this ? Thanks.

Harold, the aperture is visible in the finder due to the Aperture Direct Readout (ADR) feature that reflects the smaller aperture numbers on the aperture ring of the lens. The shutter speed is displayed likewise and is a reflection of a miniature LCD panel at the finder seating of the camera body. To see if the LCD is working properly as opposed to a misaligned mini mirror that reflects the reading as in the ADR feature, simply remove the finder and check the actual LCD panel atop the finder seating of the F3 body. If there are numbers visible when the camera is turned on and shutter release depressed halfway, then the LCD is OK but the finder is not reflecting it as it should. If it is simply blank then the LCD should be at fault. Try to get the person who has the camera in hand to check it out for you. I hope this helps. Roz

"the LCD fades in time"... Thanks for the response Roz, but I thought the display in the prism was just a simple opti-mechanical deal with the image of the f-stops on the lens reflected in the prism finder, and I assume the shutter speeds to be the same...I mean, there?s nothing that is LCD about this, is there? I wish I had the camera in front of me, but the camera is up in NY and I?m down here in New Orleans.

To Harold: The LCD display is known to fade with the passage of time. Nikon has this stated in the instruction manual and a replacement of the part can be done at an authorized Nikon service facility.

The shutter speed is not visible in the HP prism viewfinder. Can anyone help with this? Any advice? I hope there's a simple solution, otherwise this camera goes back across country via the USPS, and buyer and seller both lose money. Thanks in advance.
