JWoods: No I wouldn't say hostile. Its just the wording seemed really strange...I couldn't exactly figure out where you were coming from. Cheers Mike

To Park ST: There is no finder for the F3/F3HP with a hotshoe on top. The model you have seen was the so-called "Press Version" of the F3, which was produced in a very limited number; here, no exchange of the finder is possible.

Larry, I have the Sunpak 555, which I use with my F3HP. I love the combination. To utilize the TTL features of the F3HP, you will need to get the dedicated module NE-3D and the connecting cord EXT-11. They both are often available used from KEH Camera Brokers. If you want to ask specific questions, e-mail me. Walt

I have a F3HP with MD4 and I love it. However, I have not been able to zero in on a good TTL flash. I tried a SB-16 but it seems unstable and awkward. I would like to go to a handle flash but the SB-11 is 20+ year old technology and has a guide # of 118. I was considering the Sunpak 555. Any comments? Money is always a consideration but not the only consideration as I only plan to buy one setup! I want quality and most of the sales people I talk to only want to sell whatever they have on the shelf.Help appreciated. Larry

Can I make an assumption that there is no regular production finder for F3 that has an accessory shoe on top of the prism and those I saw are from special series of Nikon F3 cameras ?

Mike Kovacs: Did I sound very hostile to you ? If it does, I am so sorry and please forgive me. I have been through some real bad spells lately and coming back to this board to divert off a little of the tension and probably I have written something that was irritating. Hope you don't mind. At last, it is nice to see so many people finally jamming up here at this forum, I have always told leo that he has created a very good website, good things can't hide away from the eyes of public. But I do hope to see the F4 site up one day..... Peace.

JWoods: I read your response twice but I am very confused by the wording of the language you used. I'm not exactly sure whether you liked or disliked my post. In any case, I picked this tip up from a camera technician on a Nikon repair list and it worked great for me. Although the F3 screens are glass, I was still concerned about the presence of plastic fresnel or other coatings being damaged by the mechanical cleaning action with solvents. This has nothing to do with being lazy about the cleaning, only concern over potential damage.

Carmen, the light meter reads at the area in the centre of the viewscreen, and is strongly centreweighted. It activates the moment you depress the shutter button lightly / halfway and the LCD readings appear in the viewfinder. Be sure to go past '0' on the film counter for it to properly meter the scene. Otherwise it will stay fixed at 1/80 on 'A' mode and manual shutter speeds above 1/125. Set the shutter dial to 'A' and you can see the corresponding shutter speed automatically selected by the camera to the aperture you set on the lens. Using it in manual mode, see that the + and - signs appear together with a little 'M' and the selected shutter speed to indicate correct exposure. However it is your choice to under or over expose slightly for creative photography.
