Have you checked this on the F3 site? "A subtractive-type frame counter is built into the MD-4. For normal shooting, set the counter to the orange dot and forget it. At this setting, the counter is disengaged and the motor drive stops automatically when the film tension increases at the end of the roll." If you dont do so, your baby will not fire.^^ Allways take care on this, if your MD-4 seems not to work- set the counter and.. here we go. Regards Martin

Just curious, I always read about this terms "CLA", what does it exactly mean ?

Francisco Lardies: Can you borrow a motor drive to see if the camera will function normally if it is mounted. If it works, check the battery contacts and see it has any deposit (Use a eraser is the best way to clean them.) and next, pull the spring inside the battery compartment outward a little to ensure it has full connection with the cells installed. If the earlier suggestion of a MD-4/F3 combination does not get the camera come back alive to function normally, well....

Jay Anderson: FIRST try to check the film rewind button at the bottom of the camera. If it does not spring back when the film is advance a single frame. If it does - then, the problem may only be confined to the camera's film advance mechanism and I doubt the MD-4 is the cause. The F3 is still under servicing by Nikon, all parts are available and neither I think it will cost too much for such a fix. Send to your nearest Nikon service centre and you might as well give your camera a treat by doing a CLA at one go.

I assume you are refering to the self timer operation, right ? Yes. Of course. Except there are some speed settings: "B" Bulb and "T"modes.(that may not make any sense to operate them with a MD-4). The "X" will also be operational at 1/80 sec.

couldn't quite figure it out. Can I use the timer in combination with the MD-4?

Suddenly the shuter of my F3 doesn't fire. It's only doing with the mechanical lever. The batterys are fresh new. Does anybody now what could be the problem? Can be an expensive failure?

I have a problem with a Nikon F3 in that the film advance lever does not spring back automatically (figure the spring is broken, disconnected). The film advance has been like this a very long time. I just bought a used md4 motor driver for a F3.

Now just trying to use the MD4 for the first time. It will not allow me to take a picture (most of the time). Push the button down and nothing happens. After fiddling with it a bit then maybe I take a picture but then it is locked up again.

Remove the md4, reattach it and maybe I can take a picture. Plenty of power in the MD4. Does this sound like the used md4 is bad or does one think it is the F3. Any decent test I can try myself to further troubleshoot before returning the drive?? Thanks.

This is for those of you who may be looking for lower strength F3HP diopters. Recently I went looking for +0.5 diopter for my F3HP prism. I was told by Nikon here in Hong Kong that this particular strength for the HP was only produced for a short while and was no longer available. I phoned Nikon in North America to see if they had any old stock lying around. They said no, but that the +0.5 diopter for the F-801, 8008, F100, F90X was readily available and that it fits perfectly on the HP prism. I ordered a couple and I'm back in business. Anyway, thought this bit of info might be useful for someone who needs a lower strength diopter.
