Ken, Nikon does not publish any data to allow direct determination of age by serial number, however, data on dates of sale versus serial number is available. This data puts your F3HP as being first sold new in the spring or early summer of 1986. Date of manufacture could vary, depending on how long the camera may have sat on a dealer's shelf. Anyway, this gives you an approximation of the camera's age. Walt

The F3 series cam handle the moist environment alright, but the cold will create a problem. Not with the camera, but with batteries. The power capacity of batteries falls off dramatically as the temperature drops, so if you plan to shoot in extremely cold weather, you may want to consider an external anti-cold battery pack such as the DB-2. It connects by a cable to the battery compartment of the F3, holds 2 AA batteries, and stays in your pocket to stay warm.

Another option would be to get a motor drive for the F3, the MD-4, and use nickel cadmium batteries in it. NiCad batteries withstand cold a lot better than conventional alkaline batteries. Walt

I'm used FM10, Nikkormat EL, F55, F65, N5050, ,FM2n, F80, F5 and F100 before. now I just take F3, I don't like F3's flash hot shoe because it need to get AS-4 or AS-17 for using my speedlight (SB-21/B, SB-30 and SB-800) but, now I need 100% view finder and F3 have it (with low priced, I buy it about 110 USD. not mint condition but work all function.)

I'm an amateur nature photographer (but need to be pro!!) I have many trips on cold temperater and moise place. can Nikon F3 endure it? I'm asking cause I have a problem when I'm use F5 in that place (falut metering.) and I was drop it to a waterfall (now I repaired it.). I think I need some camera for replace my F5 if condition is too dificult for my F5.

QUESTION: Can F3 work in cold and moise place? Thanks.

Bambee: IF I can still recall, only the entry level 1979's Nikon EM is the model that doesn't support manual exposure control. In most situations, AUTO provides absolute convenience, but MC is good for situations where you need to use a "fixed" exposure for a series of shots that may sometimes due to light changes that AUTO mode may provides variables in exposures on eventual shots. Witht he F3's 80/20 (better than the 75/25) centerweighted metering, this is more accurate even for macro photography. Naturally, other than the F3, you may need to know the metering distribution is more spread to other areas from the center 12mm reference circle which indicates the main areaq (80%) where the camera meters. Sorry for explaining too detail, haha..

My question is: Do all of these Nikon models: "F3 HP", "F2", "F3", and "FM" give me full manual control? Thanks. Bambee.

Oh.. Mr. Walt McKinney , I will following a trail that given by Mr. Jwoods that points to leofoo's new site on the Nikon/Kodak/Fuji digital SLRs section, see: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/htmls/models/digitalSLRs/index.htm . I cannot find anything via a search from the Message Board (the link you gave). Could it be you are referring to the same site Mr. Jwoods Mentioned. Cheers.

Hi everyone, I'm missing the little screw cap thingy that covers the hole under the camera where the motordrive electric attaches on my F3T. Does anyone know the name or part number for this. Or where I might find a replacement? Thanks in advance, Phil Mohtare Aspetuck Productions
