Hello, I have an F3, early model. I did setup an rig similar to the described in http://www.photo.net/learn/focustest/, because I was getting too many out of focus images with my 50mm 1.8 E, at maximum aperture. It seems that the camera is focusing about 2cms in front of the target focus point at the minimum focusing distance, and max aperture. Is this a lens problem, or a camera problem. Can it be repaired? At home, or a technician is needed? Best regards, Santiago

Derek, Your F3 was probably manufactured in late 1982 or early 1983. Sorry I can't pin it down any closer than that, but Nikon does not publish date of manufacture vs serial number. Only have the date of sale to estimate manufacture date by. Walt

MD-4 Issue: Sounds like the CW circuitry has detached slightly from the main contact point. Not a big issue but doing it on your own is kinds difficult (easy to detach but difficult to restore). Well, you can still train to use your finger to light touch and shoot - most of the time, I am shooting with C-mode and decide each time whether to release continuously or just one frame at a time for shutter release. Will get used to it very fast. But it is good to send it in for general service the next time with your F3 (don't tell them the problem, just ask them to ensure the contacts are clean - they charge dirrefently from cleaning and/or repair. Haha ...

this website states that focusing screens made for the nikon F and F2 do not work on the F3. is this true, and in what sense are the incompatible. I have actually put the screen for an F camera in my F3 in the past. Will is cause damage? Is there some type of metering correction that must be made? Or is it simply that the older screens don't have the little lip for easier handling?

Hello, i have just got a used MD-4 for my F3, it is great and im running about pretending to be a news photographer or something. well why not, but when left alone, and with the mode selector in the L position, the exposure meter does not switch of at all. it stays on constantly. Any tips or is this normal?
Many thanks, Chris
