dear zzz;E.S.D. other wise know as electro-static-discharge.the dryer is not the place to keep your f3.you may have fried the electronics in your camera by placing it in a static filled enviroment. there are many types of camera cases on the market that would keep your stuff safe and dry. my suggestion would be to sent out to nikon for repairs. good luck.

Hi all, (I'm no pro) but I just have some real-world experience wif the F3 to tell about. I'm quite disappointed. My F3 was bot new abt 3yrs ago. it has seen very little action. less than 20 rolls. most of the time kept in an electronic dryer. Firstly, the red LED that flashes during self-timer is DEAD. (yes even after i tried fresh batteries) ok so this isnt critical. but my next problem is... Main problem is that this camera sometimes just CANNOT do slow exposures, either when manually commanded or when in A-mode and the meter says that it intends to open up for say 2 seconds. So I expect it to be holding open for sometime, but when I press the release, the camera fires off at wat seems to be some failsafe speed. (from the sound of it) Has anyone seen / heard of this problem before? The way the problem comes and goes has been quite mysterious. But I have gathered that it has something to do wif lower temperatures. but I was in a relatively mild climate.. abt 20deg celcius. yet when it is cold, the problem seems to come more often, and after it gets warmer in my hand, I could repeat the shot wif the same settings and it wld work as normal. i am so disappointed. Even in T-mode, when I release using the manual release lever, it is supposed to hold open, but sometimes it just opens and closes. any thoughts? dt

Hi, I am currently using a F4 but would really like to have a F3 as a second body. 2 features that I really like about the F4 is the brighter focusing screen and the spotmetering. While I can't do much about the F3 metering system, I was wondering if I can use an alternative focusing screen that is brighter on a F3. I know there is the Beattie Intenscreen, I have used one before on a FA, and although it's very bright but still have "grain" unlike the clear focusing screens found in most AF bodies now. I heard of people using F4 focusing screens on F3 or even F2, but also heard a few problems associated with such combination especially difficulty in focusing. I would really appreciate any help, comment, and sharing of experience with this issue. To me, if one can brighten up the view of the F3 and use a hand-held spotmeter, it's as good as any more advanced cameras available now, and only at half the weight !

I have been shooting with Nikons for almost 20 years and wouldn't consider using another 35mm set-up. I currently have an F3HP as the my main and an FA as the backup. I have read through the sections on flash and off-flash accessories and still have some questions that I will post to the general audience at large. Specifically with the F3HP, I wish to create a two flash off-camera set-up with non-Nikon flash units (one Vivitar 285HV and one Starblitz unit). These units were given to me and, not really a flash user before, have never bothered to upgrade to Nikon Speedlights. I think I understand the basic components for the TTL set-up(Camera-SC18-AS10/Flash-SC19-AS10/Flash), will this still work for my flash units? Or is it a waste of money until upgrading to a SB-16B unit? Thanks.

Hi Dustin, I have seen the replacement part for the finder. Don't know the part number but can accurately confirm there is such part.

Dennis: Any Nikon lens with an "F" mount is usable on your F3. These include the AI, AIS and the current autofocus lenses. Of course the autofocus function will not work with these lenses. The older non-AI lenses will also mount to the camera, but f-stops and shutter speeds will have to be set manually. The most common lenses to use with the F3 are the AI and AIS. Virtually all third-party lens manufacturers (Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Vivitar, Quantray, Phoenix & others) make lenses that will fit the F3. There are adapters that will allow the use of Mamiya, Bronica and Hasselblad medium format lenses on the F3, so you can see the possibilities are almost endless. Good luck! Walt

I have been away from the photographic world for a while and I am re-entering with a Nikon F3 I purchased on eBay. I amd a little confused with regard to lens types, i.e. AI, AIS. Which lenses are more aproppriate for use with the F3? Any explanation will be appreciated.
