hi, i just recently started using an old Nikon F3 Serial No. 150xxxx and i can't find that little pin that resets the pin counter. i've gone over this site and found a pic showing where that pin would be but upon checking my camera, it's just NOT THERE. there's no raised groove on the film back cover either. now my counter is stuck at 40. the film speed index is stuck at 100 as well no matter how much i turn the dial under the film rewinder. can i fix these on my own or do i need to send it to a shop? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Nick and welcome to the world of f3's users. In my opinion, the f3 is probably one of the best cameras to learn how to take pictures. And I still use it, as a valuable alternative to digital. You could consider also to read something: "The camera" of Ansel Adams would be perfect (if you haven't yet read it!). Have good light, Giuseppe

Nick, Although the F3 is a professional level camera, it is still not a real complex one. It has a lot of bells & whistles, but all are relatively easy to understand and operate. I have owned an F3HP (identical to an F3 except for the prism) for about 8 or 9 years, and upgraded to it from a Canon AE-1. A thorough study of the manual and practicing with several rolls of film should go a long way toward making you comfortable with your F3. I recently acquired an F4, which I did mainly because my eyesight is not what it used to be, and manual focus was becoming more and more difficult. I got it rather than an F5 or F100 because of the similarity of the controls to those on the F3HP. I don't really care for the all-electronic cameras, and the LCD displays drive me nuts. Hope you get as much pleasure out of the F3 as I did. Walt

Question on my F3 w/ MD4 motor drive. I bought this about a year and a half go, and they have worked excellent for me until recently. Now, it seems when I use the MD4, it advances the film, but makes stacatto noises like it is still trying to advance the film. Any ideas?

Hi All, I have just been "Lent" my Dads old Nikon F3, along with a Motor Drive and 3 lenses. I have just found the manual which explains alot of what all the bells and whistles do, which is great. This is my first proper play with an slr (not including digital slr's), and I want to teach myself all about film photgraphy before I get (inevitably) a digital slr. As I know that this is a professional camera, will it still be relativly easy for a novice to use it, or is it jumping into the deep end? Also As I learn more, you will probably see more messages from me (hopefully)!!! thanks in advance Nick
