I have a Metz 45cl4 flash that does TTL-metering. I have just bought a filter for the Metz for close-up portrait photos. On the manual of the filter (yes, everything comes with a manual nowadays, even a piece of plastic) it says that it wil cost you 1 stop. Even though it is TTL, should I now use the exposure compensation dial, and if so, make it an +1 or -1?

Focusing Screen... Not wanting to spend out the (English) price of a new screen for F3, can I take the glass from the mount of an F/F2 screen and transplant it to the mount of an F3 screen. I know that metering is done in-body, so that should be okay, but what I would like to know is if this would affect the plane of focus, i.e, are the actual glass screens the same, and the mounts the differing parts, or are the screens of different thickness? Your answers are appreciated, Regards, Matt

To Magnus: I would suggest checking the LCD shutter speed indicator which may have deteriorated with age. Also if there is excessive wobble with the film advance lever and ASA setting / flash mounting shoe. These may indicate heavy or rough use. Roz

Hi, I'm planning on buying a used F3HP in the near future. Are there some things that I should keep in mind before I buy one? Parts that might be worn out? Regards Magnus Ki

Mario, The on/off switch is a small lever on the right side of the top of the camera next to the shutter release. Push the lever sideways until you see the red dot. After you open the camera back the meter will read a shutter speed of "80" until you advance the frame counter to "1". After that the meter will function normally. If that doesn't work, find a repair shop. To my knowledge the cover the motor drive coupling does not affect the battery. Some have commented that without the motor drive coupling cover ambient light may reach the film in the body and fog the film, so it might be best to find one. The MD4 motor drive has a holder for the coupling cover. If you also purchased the MD4, the cover may be in the motor drive. Check camera stores, they may have a cover laying around or they may find one in a separate MD4 they have for sale. Nikon still sells the covers separately.
