I just got another F3. I noticed that at 1 sec. and slower speeds, there is a whirring sound after you press the shutter. It sounds like a spring/winding mechanism. I noticed this on my other camera as well, but I had to bring it to my ear to hear. However, on this one, you can hear it quite easily although it's not loud at all. Should I worry about this? What is it? Thanks.

Has anyone on the forum manage to download the F3hp intruction manual in PDF format before it was removed from the site? If so, can you please email me the copy at khoking@photomalaysia.com? If I have the copy, I will try my best to send to others who needed it too, I am sure Nikon USA can't do anything with this. Hope the legend of F3hp can continue... Thanks.

Phil, the basic F3 remained very much the same throughout its production period with respect to the lens compatibility . The bodies that I know of which utilizes the full AIS functions are the FA and F4 series.

Just a quick question. I know the F3 is an AI camera, but do the current models utilize AIS lens functions? Thanks.

Its also possible that the lens mount may have been knocked out of alignment. I'd get the camera checked by a competant repair technician.

Hello, I'm not sure if it's just my eyes, but my F3 doesn't seem to focus at infinity. I've tried the same lens (nikkor 50mm) with my other nikon body and the lens seems fine - it focuses properly at infinity. However, on my F3, when set at infinity, the split image does not seem to align (I have the K screen).
As a side note, my F3 fell on concrete at a height of about 8ft...could the mirror, or the prism, be out of place?
Thank you

Kayin:

Check out John Shaw's Nature Photography Field Guide. I think this will have all of the information you need and will give you a lot to think about.

By the way: WHAT A FRIEND!

Kayin, you can use almost any Nikkor and other third party 'Nikon F' mount lenses on your F3, even AF lenses focussed manually. One *exception* is the newer AF Nikkor 'G' lenses because they lack aperture rings. A basic kit comprising focal lengths of 28mm, 50mm and 80-200mm zoom would cover most general needs. Modern zooms even cover all with just one lens.

I have recently been bitten by the wonderful bug of photography. I was given a Nikon F3, by a friend. The camera was a gift of incouragement, my friend says I have a natural eye for capturing images.
I enjoy hiking and I would often just take pictures with a disposable camera and my friend was very impressed with some of the images. Especially with the use of a disposable.

In comes the the F3, and after a few experiences with it I am hooked. So here is my inquiry, I enjoy taking nature photos and I have two beautiful daughters who just enjoy being in front of a camera. I am wondering what types of lenses should i purcahse for this camera. What type of Normal, Wide angel and Zoom lense(s). And any other suggestions you might have. I have really enjoy crusing through your site and it has been very informative and inspiring.

Thank you so much for your inspiration, who knows maybe someday i can be a great Photographer.
