I need something clarified on the F3 Exposure memory lock button. Must one hold the button down and CONTINUE TO HOLD IT DOWN after composing the shot? It just seems strange to have my right hand fingers holding the camera, one finger on the memory lock and then using another finger to work the shutter release button.

Hi, I am trying to find out a bit on the F3AF, DX-1 finder. Under the battery cover of the DX-1, there is a accessory cover and under the cover, there is some kind of cable connection. Does anyone knows what the connection was used for and what cable was used for such a purpose. Lim

I have bought a Nikon F3(HP, I think) but didn't know this simple camera can do so much more until I found this site (accidentally). GREAT let me pick up something from here during the weekend and see what can I do more with it. This is a fine site and I wish I have found it earlier, probably I should get my son to learn something from here instead of bursting my pocket to buy a new camera, GREAT STUFFS !!!!!

I wanted to add that I have the original box with matching HP serial number and bought it from the original owner. Also when I used the "width" as a measurement, I meant height. I felt that it would be a better indicator of dimension than a 1/2 inch VS 1/8 inch relationship wich wuld only be a best guess. thanks again for your help, dale

Hi, It's the guy with the two diffrent HP prizms.. After reading your questions I compared the two finders closely. the cameras are identical F3s definitely not "P" the one with the funny finder is serial # 1637535 and the newer one is 1793100 The prizms are identical externally I have compared them closely, especially the distance between the ai window and the other openings. However when you look through the finder the "readout windows" on the newer one is approximately one width of the LCD window from the top of the "view" window whereas the older one is approximately 4 LCD "widths" above the "view" window. that is why I wa asking if there was a manufacturing change in the HP between 1984 and 1986. Again they are both HP prizms and identical in every other dimension. thanks, dale

Based on pure descriptions, sounds like you are having a Nikon F3P camera body, since you mentioned you too having a F3HP (High eyepoint DE-3 finder but diifficult to see the info inside finder), the camera must have been using not the original HP finder DE-4 Titanium prism but a normal eye-level DE-2 finder when you bought the second unit. The slightly-flat DE-2 normal eyelevel finder does not carry a high eyepoint spec (with with a bigger image magnification). Well, usually the F3 Press has a "F3/P" inscribed at the front and since you have never mentioned this and that is making the issue a little hard to guess. I have discussed this with leo, why don't you send him some pictures and let him verify for you ?
