I have just discovered this site and what a fantastic site it is . I am not the first to say this but it is a great website. I have been lucky to own FE FM F2AS F4 801

But my favourite camera of all time was my F3 hp MD4 with 20mmf2.8 35mmf2 105f1.8 35/70mm f2.8 80/200 f2.8 with Fm for second body I was prepaired for everything well nearley. Nikon should make a digital camera called F3 hp digital same size and weight full size digital 8mp sensor now that would tempt me over to digital. Good luck with the website and thanks for taking me on a journey through the past so well.

How do i establish fill-in flash with my F3-body and SB-17-flash? I'm not a technical person and thus would love to have some guide of step-by-step guide about this subject. I love this site by the way, it provided me with loads of info about my camera.

Hello, I have an F3/T and haven't used it in a while. I just took it out and noticed the battery was dead. Replaced the battery but the shutter is not working (only the manual shutter on the front next to the lens). This happened to me once before years ago and I remember one of my coworkers told me what to do. It was very simple but I can't remember now. Please, if anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and happy shooting! Mariann

50 or 55f1.2 lens
Does anyone use the above lenses? I borrowed one for a few days and found that I can focus in dim light quite easily, it doesn't seem like much but the viewfinder is brighter at f1.2 than it is when using my 50 f1.4 lens. The only thing(s) I don't care for is the weight and the hefty price. I'm leaning towards picking it up though and would like to hear from others who use this lens.
:-) Mark

<<>> You have to meter something and then push the button and you get a very dim light displaying the shutter speed. It works fine on both of my F3HP's and other F3's that I've borrowed or played with in a shop. The trick is you have to meter off of something and then immediately push the red button. It takes some practice and although it is virtually useless it does work. Mark

Dirk: The prism (I assume that is what you are calling the viewfinder) is basically just one big chunk of glass. You could take the top cover off the prism with the 4 very small, Phillips-head screws, two on each side of the prism. The shutter that closes off the eyepiece at the back of the prism, which is operated by the small lever at the left rear of the prism, may be dirty. I'm not sure how you get to it, though. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Walt

focussing screens are clean. Thanks for the advice Walt, I checked it out and apparently all the surfaces of the viewfinder, mirror and focussing screen are clean. The problem is really situated inside the viewfinder on the inside of the looking glass. Should I try to dismantle the viewfinder to clean the inside or is this a foolish idea?

Kevin, The battery compartment on the F3 is accessed through a small round cover plate on the bottom of the camera. The cover has a slot in it that can be used with a coin, such as a nickel or a quarter. The camera requires either two (2) 1.5 volt silver oxide cells, such as Type S-76 or SR-44; two (2) 1.5 volt manganese alkaline button cells, Type LR-44; or one (1) 3 volt lithium cell, Type CR-1 3N. There is a motor drive available for the F3. It is the MD-4, but the camera does not require a motor drive to operate properly. You can download an F3 manual from this website. Walt

i recently bought a nikon f3 off from ebay and it did not come with a user's manual, therefore i am clueless of how to use it. I have a few questions 1. does the camera requires battery to work? if so, where do i open the camera to replace with new batteries? 2. as i'm reading more about the camera, i've come across motor drives. Is it necessary to have one? I do not need it for the camera to work correct? any help is appreciated, as you can tell, i am extremely new at this hobby. Thanks
