Hi, I have just received a Nikon F3, but I have not been able to even turn it on. I changed the battery for a new one but it didn't worked. The motor driving coupling cover is lost. Can this be the reasons. Thanks, Mario

I have a SB16 which I use exclusively on a F3HP. I now have a Coolpix 5700 and would like to use the SB16 there as well. Does Nikon have an adapter so that the SB will fit on the hotshoe of the 5700??? Is there any other reason why this flash would not be good on the digital?? Thanks!

To Jim: It is normal for one of the contact pins on the MD-4 to be recessed as you described. I can only suggest you try cleaning the contacts on the F3 body and MD-4. If it doesn't work, you might want to get it inspected at an authorised service facility. Roz

I recently purchased a F3 with the MD4. THe MD4 is not functioning. I have replaced batteries in both the camera and MD4. The rewind function of the MD4 works. When attached to the camera, the LCD does not come on nor does the camera fire in either S or C mode. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong? There is one of the contacts on the MD4 which is recessed, I think #3, (don't have the unit with me at the moment), is this the way it is supposed to be. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Raf: There can be so many other possibilities that may affect metering (such as did you alter the zoom setting during shooting, did the subject moves closer or further away, did the light level changes between two expousres ? etc...and LASTly, if you are talking using prints instead of slides, the photo finisher can create more damages to your "exposures" than anything !). If you feel you are very possible that NOTHING was changed and manual gives you the more accurate exposure, just turn the exposure compensation dial (when you are in AUTO) adjust to finetune exposure half a stop (or any settings in its 1/3 increments), it is as simple as that and serves as self calibrating. Calibration can also be done via Nikon but as a user, I think it is unlikely the cause. Please also note: manual shutter speeds, although are quartz timed, but you can only set them in a full f-stop as there is NO variations as with the camera that meters in AUTO mode - the speeds are governed STEPLESSLY. However, the aperture diaphragm can be set at "HALF" or interval values on the lense when runs at MANUAL exposure control.

Mark: The Nikon F3 has an interchangeable finder system (meaning the viewfinder can be take off to change any prism you think best suite your needs in a particular photography, see: the instruction how to remove and change the finder at this page: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/finders/finder1.htm next, to be more exact answering your question - F3 used to offer a n eye-level finder called DE-2 when it was introduced; a few years later, a new eye-level finder (DE-3) was introduced with the advantage of offering eye-glass wearer to see the entire viewfield inside the finder more comfortably from a slight distance away (approx.25cm) this finder is also called "High-Eyepoint Finder" where the "HP" stands for. All subsequent Nikon has HP finder as standard after 1983 (?) onwards. It does not provide other advantage over the DE2 except this feature (and a slightly improved rubber sealing at its sides), well in a way, F3 with a HP looks more elegant as some Nikon faithful think so, it is all depends on personal preference but such thought does affect their respective prices as F3HP model usually has a slightly better premium than a standard DE2 F3 model. that's all. For other prisms for F3, read: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/finders/finder2.htm

Hi, I recently bought a Nikon SB-17 flashlight as a bargain, without the adapter shoe and instead 6-7 wires coming out of the box. I suppose that the Nikon F3 Adapter shoe has something like a potentiometer built in, which is adjusted by the DIN/ASA ring of the camera. Is this true ? I would like to know the correct wiring inside the adapter shoe, so if there is somebody with experience any help would be appreciated. I made some scans of the pcb board with those wires and could send them by email on request. Thanks

Hi to all of you. I've recently bought a Nikon F3 with shows following problem:
When a shutter speed is manually selected, the exposure is correct, but when in automatic mode, the slides come out overexposed by 1/2 stop. The difference in shutter speed is also noticable via the LCD-screen. In the F3 sales brochures is mentioned that manual speeds are quartz-timed and automatic speeds are controlled in another way. Has anyone experienced this problem and found a solution for it? Thanks
