f/22 is a very small aperture for flash. With a powerful flash and 100 speed film, I wouldn't expect more than a couple feet of coverage. Use a larger aperture: f/5.6 to f/8 on my large Vivitar 4600 exposes out to 10' with a ceiling bounce.

Mike Kovacs, I recently purchased an F3. Also I purchased a Vivitar flash adapter as I already have a DM/DN module for my N2000 and thought I would use the same Vivitar flash for both. However, exposures with the F3 seem underexposed, while the N2000 has proper exposure. The F3 is set at the proper flash sync. Is the problem the aperature setting? The N2000 requires a minimum aperture setting, like f22, for the flash to work correctly. Any ideas? Thanks Tim Jagielski

Thanks Bruce. If somebody encounters the same problem, your tip will sure come in handy. My only experience with 'frozen' electronics is with the F801/N8008, in which the manual suggest removing and reinstalling the batteries to reset the electronics.

I had a problem where my F3 electronics were "frozen" regardless of battery condition or camera settings. I took it to a certified Nikon repair facility where they "estimated" that the cost of repair was $150 (10 years ago). Being rather poor at the time I took the camera home and put it away. A month or so later, I was attending a library dedication and a photographer from the local paper who was covering the event was snapping away with two F3's. I described my problem to him and he said it was a common problem. To reset the electronics, you set and use the manual shutter release. I tried it and it worked. I'm still rather PO'ed at the Nikon facility in NYC and my local camera store for not knowing this. Just thought others might find it useful.

Hi all... I am looking for a viewfinder for my nikon f3... Any ideas where I can purchase a used one? I need an inexpensive one, and don't have a preference of whether it is waist level or whatnot. Thanks.. Laraleigh

Is anyone aware of where I might be able to obtain an MF-6 or MF-6B back for an F3HP? I did a web search, and the usual places don't seem to have one. Please feel free to email me directly. Thanks.

The flash synch has stopped working on one of my F3 bodies. Can anyone estimate a "ballpark" cost of repairing this, assuming I send it to an authorized Nikon repair shop? Better yet, has anyone actually had this work done, and can you recall the cost? Thanks for any help you can give, Regards, Alan

I was never able to get my Vivitar hotshoe to properly function with a standard Nikon TTL flash. It is meant to be used with the Vivitar DM/N2 which it does function with. (I have two now with two Vivitar flashes) The problem lies in the fact that the F3 does not use a standard fire/quench sequence but rather the flash is sent the meter reading directly (this is covered on the mir site content somewhere). If you look at the Vivitar shoe, you'll note that it is missing one of the required contacts. (it has one big one and two small ones)

I use it on my F3 and find that the ligh inside the finder is flicking when the flash is charged full. It is difference with my Sb 14 flash which is on red light when it is full charge and flicking if it is not flash correctly pls advsie me that it is normal for Vivitar shoe with F3 when using it with other flash, such as SB 28 or Metz flash with F3 dedicated shot shoe thanks in advanced - Ben -
