Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. Hi,
Lobve your website. Brilliant. I recently bought a second hand Nikon FE2 here in bangkok from a reputable dealer. However after 2 rolls of film the mirror case jammed up and the shuter cutain wouldn't work. The shop sent it off to be repaired and lent me a Nikon F90 until my FE2 was repaied. About a week later it was returned and seemed fine. In fact the repair guys had even cleaned up a few minor cosmetic areas of the camera. I put a new roll of film in and after only 14 frames I had the same lock up problem with the window.
I will take it back to the camera again today and he will lend me another camera until my FE2 gets fixed. He has also offerred to change my FE2 for another model permanently but I just love this little FE2 if if possible, I don't want to change it for a different model.
The only thing I'd change it with would be a second hand Nikon FM3a that is currently siting in another camera shop down the road. But the FM3a is more than double the price of my FE2. It's selling for 20000baht (Approx US$588). I bought my FE2 for 7000baht (US$205).
I have been reading this forum and have noticed alot of stories about FE2's jamming up. Seems to be a common prob. Do you have any idea what is causing the problem? To me it seems related to the electronic circuitry. I could have that F90 if I wanted to change the FE2 but I just don't want the newer computerized kind of cameras. I love the FE2 and the FM3a looks brilliant too. If I had the money up front I would ask for a refund on my FE2 and go buy the FM3a. I am still under warranty with my FE2 so all repairs are free and the owner really takes care of me buy giving other good equipment to use while my camera is being repaired. But it's just depressing when the camera breaks down. I don't want to have to borrow an F90 even if it is a more expensive and advanced camera. I just want my FE2 working properly.
Anyway I really want to understand why the mirror keeps jamming up the way it is. I want to understand what is going on with my camera.
Hope you can advise.
Best wishes,
Richard2. From : James Reid (reidjam7@gmail.com)

Troubleshooting an FE. Came to me working. Shortly after cleaning, a shutter problem developed: Fires on 'M' and 'B' settings fine. Will fire once on any other speed setting after resting two or three minutes between attempts. Speed sounds correct. Next attempt mirror flips up, but shutter fails to activate.
Move shutter speed dial to 'M,' and mirror flips down. Wait two or three minutes, same cycle.
Seems mechanical components are fine. Electrical problem indicated. Cleaned contacts, replaced batteries. Same symptoms.
FRE? Any other thoughts?
Your response to my inquiry would be appreciated.
Yours truly,

Bought my first FE at a yard sale over 15 years ago for $10.00. [the battery was dead and neither of us new the problem]Since then I've acquired several and they are the most dependable cameras I've ever owned. I take one in every two or three years for a cleaning and adjustment...that's it. I recommend the FE to anyone who doesn't want to worry about fiddling with the newer computerized finicky plastic AF junk.4. From : pelelou uy (pelelou_uy@yahoo.com)

Hi. I recently acquired a Nikon FE2, and as I was about to roll my film, the rewind crank popped out. There was a small, flat washer and another one with an angled tab. A spring also came off and the winding handle and pin, too. I have no idea how to put it back and was wondering if anyone knows or if anyone could provide me with a blown-up picture of the camera, so that I could find out how it looked like and maybe put it back together on my own. Thanks in advance! And hope someone replies soon. :)6. From : Cameron Dube (cdoobie@hotmail.com)

Hi I picked up a used n2000 that seems to work great but I can not load film into the camera. The winding know will not move up to pop open the back. I have found a manual and read the directions, but the know seems to have some Damage to it and I am wondering if something is broken and that is why. If it is broken can you get it fixed fairly inexpensively??? I only paid like $8.00 for it but it would be nice if I could still use it. Thanks for your time...8. From : paul (pbspelly@adelphia.net)

I have a Nikon FE with a shutter problem. Sometimes (and with increasing frequency), the shutter delays/hangs-up when I depress the trigger. The mirror clicks up, but the shutter stalls for a few seconds before firing. The delay is an arbitrary amount, sometimes for a second or two, sometimes five or more seconds. Then it triggers, and fires at the proper shutter speed. I tried replacing the battery and this didn't fix it. I also noticed that it does this sometimes even when I am using M90, which shouldn't involve the battery at all (my understanding). If anyone has any ideas, please email me at pbspelly@adelphia.net. Help! my loved fe2 which i wasn't using for a couple of year, today after battery change is dead: exposimeter doesn't move. I have made the stupid error to put the new battery upside down, ie with the neg pole upward: could that be the cause of the death?? I assume not seem anybody could make such a stupid mistake. In the case it is the cause, what you suggest? something easy to repair?
thanks so much, greeting to all lover of this nice machines10.
