Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FE Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. From Fred Thompson: "I have a Nikon FE that after taking pictures all film is Blank, any idea what the problem could be??"

It came out of the take-up spool and did not go through the camera. The failsafe loading method is:

First, insert the film leader into the take-up spool, turn the spool by hand about 2/3 turn to be sure the leader is secure and the film engages both sprocket teeth

Then drop the film can into its place and take up slack with the rewind knob.

Close the back and wind off 2 shots, watching the rewind knob to be certain the film is advancing.

That roll of film will go through the camera!

In reply to Sterling about the dead MD12:

Try changing the actual camera battery/batteries in the camera, then trying the motor drive again. If the camera batteries are dead, the MD12 won't fire. I think the same goes for FM and FE cameras when used with that drive. The FA however, will work without a camera battery, when used with an MD15 drive.

I have an MD-12 with new batteries that will not turn on. There is no corrosion . It was working well several years ago and I have just pulled it out to use. It was stored with no batteries installed. Any idea why it is not working?

Hi. I recently purchased a used Nikon FE. Today, I checked the slow shutter speeds and found out the the actual durations are smaller than the specified ones at least for slow speeds. (I couldn't check the fast shutter speeds. Is there any way that I can check fast shutter speeds?)
The shutter opening duration was about 5 seconds for 8 seconds setting, 2.5 seconds for 4 seconds setting, and so on.
Can you figure out why this happens and is there any easy fix for these problems?

Thank you in advance.

Can anyone tell me if lenses for a Nikon FE (1978) can be used on a Digital Nikon D40x?

Hello.

I've just acquired a secondhand Nikon FE2 that has a Nikon Speedlight SB-18 flash attached to it. I'm a beginner to film photography and I have no idea how to handle it properly.

One, I have no idea how to detach the flash from the flash control contacts. Two, I can't see anything through the viewfinder eyepiece. Three, I don't know how to open the back cover. Four, the film count thing shows that it has 12 shots left but I tried taking a picture but it does not do anything.

There are many things I am quite puzzled about this old gadget but the said are the important ones I need to know.

Please EMAIL me when answering. Thank you very much.

I have a FE2 in excellent condition which as I recall (I haven't used it for years but plan to use on vacation) tended to overexpose pictures unless set at a minus 2/3rds f stop. Have others experienced this problem?

I bought my NikonFE in Singapore on 1983!From that year I shooted hundreds and hundreds of pictures,it never failed, extraordinary indeed!

Now the unique problem is the exposimeter that sould be cheked, but I use to put increased exposition +1 and so now it is okay without any problem. If I will repair the exposimemeter, somebody knows how much average will cost it?
Thanks and Long Live FE Nikon!!Bye

I had been have the same problem as many on this board with the metering on my FE. Today, after taking the camera to a local repair facility, I finaly know what the problem is.

It seems that if the camera has been stored for a long period of time, the batteries will "swell" and the battey box will crack due to the pressure from the piece of spring steel that forms the contact on the bottom of the battery box. In this case, the wire that is soldered on the back side of this contact then contacts some piece of metal and the camera will not get any power. This also causes the batteries to get hot and swell even more.

I repaired mine by removeing the bottom plate, and while pulling up on the bottom contact, I applied several drops of super glue and held until the glue dried. I then reinstalled the batteries and now everything works!

I know this is probably only a temporary fix, but I needed to find out if this was really the problem. The repair person said that to replace the battery box would require removal of the whole front of the camera with a cost of about $175.00.

The easiest way to see if you have this problem is to remove the batteries, and with a something like a pencil, see if the black plastic battery box moves at all. If it does, this might be you problem. If the LED on the back of the camera lights, then this is not you problem.

Hope this helps.

Greg
