Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. Excellent site - Excellent Cameras
Question: One of my Nikons is an original FE Black Body with a damaged auto-indexing ring. It got bumped and it now binds. I have access to a replacement ring from a chrome FE or a black FE2 - Does anyone know if the indexing ring from the FE2 will exactly match the FE? Thanks in advance - Dave2. I am interested in purchasing a tamron AF28-200mm F3.8-5.6 Super II Macro to put on my old FE so that it becomes my traveling camera. Some people tell me that the FE will give false readings on the F stop when you use the zoom since the zoom will change the aperture but the camera will not realize the change. What has been the experience of those who have use a newer AF zoom lens with an FE.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Any experts out there, help. I need to have the light meter on my FE2 fixed. THe auto-indexing ring needs a new spring, any ideas where to find one? And even if I do move it by hand the needle on the exposure scale seems to be jammed. It will move slightly but when I slightly depress the shutter release button it jumps up as if to work and stops at the number '8' at the bottom of the exposure scale. What to do? Would love any ideas or help on this.4. From : M. Ali Musa (mamcg@operamail.com)

Some one gave me a FE in early 80's, still I have that and it is a nice piece of craft hence I do not shoot with this but it decorates my collection so I kept it.5. From : Jim Collins (jcollins@telegram.com)

I put a new spring on the auto-indexing ring, but now the ring does not slide freely with the lens mounting plate screwed down firmly. Anyone have experience with this?6. From : Rich Hilts (wizerman@bignetnorth.net)

I have an FE2 with an MD12, great camera until now. What it is doing lately is eating batteries. Change batteries in the camera and drive and after a couple of days it locks up like it does when the batteries are dead. any help??-Pat8. From : Hermann Graf (hermann.graf@basf-ag.de)

To Brad J.: If you see fibers, it looks like fungus. Perhaps only the eyepiece of the camera is effected, which can easily be replaced. If it is the prism, the end of your camera could have come...Rgds. Hermann Graf9. From : Brad J (johnsonb@sial.com)

I have an '82 FE. All works fine but have a buildup of dust inside the camera...I can see tiny fibers in the
viewfinder. Can I clean myself or does the camera need to go to the shop?10. To Paul Keyser: A possibility to reduce flare in your shots is using a lens hood. Be aware that the size of the lens hood must comply with the focusing length of the lens (the shorter the focusing legth, the shorter the length of the hood, otherwise vignetting will occur). Nikon's telephoto lenses are mostly equipped with a built-in lens hood. For the other lens types, either Nikon's or third party's hoods can be used. I can can recommend those made of rubber. Another possibility is to use a compendium, which can be adjusted in length, but is relatively expensive. Regards Hermann Graf
