Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. Hi Guys! I have an old manual focus Nikon FE.I wish to buy a reasonable Zoom lense.I heard the new Nikkor AF 70-300mm G lens works with FE.Could anyone let me know what other lenses can I use with my FE (manual focus).I would like to have a 70-210mm or 70-300mm lense. Aperture ring is absent in the G lenses. So,is that compatible with FE?also can I use any Auto Focus lenses with my Manual Focus FE? Also, for pricing n quality, can I go for Sigma or Tamron if the Nikons get expensive? I am a amatuar hobbiest! would like to use this for wild life fotography!2. From : Gerry (exdonner@hotmail.com)

Right now between me and my keyboard are the guts of a shutter mechanism for a FE2. I've had it since '84 (they say that memory is the second thing to go, right?... wrong!). Anyhow the shutter blades were damaged (not by I) several years ago and I am only now getting to work on it. I had an estimate into the Hundreds back then. Now I know why!!! While I have a copy of the Repair Manual, it doesn't show any detail on the shutter mechanism. I have been able to get replacement blades from Nikon Canada. For those that care they are apparently going to be the 'new' aluminum style. If anybody has better pictures or any details that can help me I would be greatful. In particular there are two springs hooked onto the shutter blades, One has come off and I can't tell where it used to be. The second is still there so I hope to copy this. Also a very small piece of plastic 'fell out'. It is shsped like a 'T'. It's about 2mm x 3mm ??? At this stage I am only giving the repair project a 25% chance of success, but we've been through a lot together and well....3. From : Vee (biraciaLid@aol.com)

Seems Clement, Mike, Eric, and Lauren and I are forming a club! My first FE2 was stolen and I had it for almost 14 years. I only remember having the shutter stick/ frozen advance lever problem once and it was because the batteries had died. I just bought a used Fe-2 from a dealer on Ebay and guess what? It's got fresh batteries and in addition to the above-mentioned problems, I'm having trouble rewinding the film. I guess I should have done more homework, but I loved my first FE-2 (and relied on it)and it didn't occur to me that there would be any major problems with this. I haven't seen any helpful repsonses for this; so, I guess no one here has discovered to path out of this condition.
In spite of it all, I'm STILL a big fan of the FE-2!4. From : Clement (cccc9999@time.net.my)

My FE is in need of repair. Sources here in Louisiana say that it cannot be repaired because this model has been discontinued. Any information on repair sources will be much appreciated.6. From : Dagmar (dagnelson@yahoo.com)

Hi there, I use a FE2 since a year or two and I have problems to understand the exposure measurement. I tried to compare my FE2 with friends' cameras (all center weighted metering systems, same subject, same lens, same aperture, same film sensibility) and the results are different. There can be a difference of 1 or 2 aperture values. I found that for low contrast subject, my FE2 over-expose, and for high contrast pictures it under-expose, if compared to a Canon EOS300 in manual mode. Is it that simple? How should I understand the exposure measurements?10. Hi, I have the same shutter problem as Eric, and Lauren on my FE. My shutter sticks(the mirror goes up), and will not release on every shutter speed, with the exception of M90, and B. When it sticks I have to turn the dial either M90 or B to get it to release. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks
