Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FE Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. I guess few people ever visit this messsage board. Maybe few users of the FE too? Sad day, My FE which I managed to get working again has a jammed shutter and film advance lever. I'll have to send it back to the repair people again.

Hi! Just wondering what adhesive is suitable to stick the leather/engineering plastic like black cover of the front of Nikon FE which was peeled off to access some areas for repair previously. Some say rubber contact cement? Can I really use it?

Remember he FE I said I bought with several problems. Well I had it checked by a repair person. Now it works fine. Only trouble is with the right hand side front plastic or rubber like finish he had to peel off to have access to the internal parts to do his work. Now, its finely operating. However, I was wondering because the said black leather/plastic which has been peeled off does not stick firmly as it used to bee. I was just wondering what could be the adhesive used? Is it rubber contact cement or something or do I have to bring it to the Nikon repair center tohave the whole black plastic cover on the right side replaced with a new one? I was thinking this might be similar to the material used for the FM3a and the FM2 and other newer models so they can use it to replace the one on my FE. One thing also, the 50 mm lens which came with the camera has badly molded lenses. Tried to clean one of the lens but noticed on closed examination, that the growth actually crept throught the coating.

Hello,
I came across this message board while looking for a solution for a problem I have with my FE. The problem is the following: for every shutter speed (except M90 and B), the shutter never opens when you press the button. It never opens, but it also never tells the camera that it is (remained) closed afterwards, meaning you cannot use the transport arm. You have to manually set the dial to M90 to deblock that problem. In short, this makes the camera unusable.
I checked the batteries, and they are not the cause: on replacing them with fresh ones, the problem is exactly the same. Has anybody got a clue as to the source of the problem and how one might solve it. I have other cameras, including a Nikon F50, but I would love to use this one again for I have a wide range of lenses to go with it.

Kind regards,

Wouter Pinkhof

I asked a friend photographer of mine to buy for me a Nikon FE for my own use. Told him to pay for it and I will just pay the cost he paid when I get the camera from him. When I had a chance to visit him I told him that I will bring the payment and I'll get the camera. When I finally had a chance to take a look at the merchandise. I found that it may be just slightly used. He said it owned by someone who did not used it much. The rubberized paint finishing looks good considering the age of the camera. The film chamber looks clean except for some small deposits on the film guide rails presumably due to non-use for a long time. Shutter, film advance lever, multiple exposure lever, ASA setting knob, exposure compensation, exposure double needle meter, timer, mirror, clean, reflex mirror chamber clean flash contact good, battery chamber not damaged. Except that, I noticed that the battery check meter does not light up aside from the temperamental flicker I see whenever I slide the switch to check for battery power even if the battery installed can power the timer and the exposure meter. The DOF lever beside the lens is hard to press and when pressed, it stays there maybe because of the hardened lubrication material due to long time of not being moved. The shutter speed knob is loose. You can feel the faint clicks but in some position, it becomes loose. I really would like to have an FE. But, does anybody have some thinking on this and if this unit is restorable to its operational state? The 50 mm lens Nikon series E I think seems good except for traces of mold growth which I think can be cleaned.

Hi .. I have an old FE2 camera, in mint condition. I bought a year ago from friend (actually it was bartered with a PC). The camera came without flash. So I tried to buy flash in nearby store. I found an SB-15 about Rp. 1.800.000,00 (about US $180) in new conditions. It's too high for that camera (its more expensive than the camera itself). Can anybody tell me others flash that work perfect with Nikon, specially FE2? Thank You Regard: irish
