Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FE Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. I have a Nikon FE2 that has a problem. I have a light leak of some sort. Originally, I thought with the first roll of film the lense was not set tightly on the camera body. I made sure that the lense was tight and still have an elongated, horizontal, triangular section that is obviously over exposed. I am now thinking the shutter mechanism is sticking. Any ideas?

Wanted: Metering ring for my FE. I took my Nikon FE with me when I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail a few years ago and got some great photos. Unfortunately, I got it wet and need a new FRE. Maybe someone has a parts camera for sale?

Anne: Are you referring to the legendary, phenomenal, Kiron 105 2.8 macro lens? If so, they sell for around $175.00 in US dollars. They are an extremely good lens. I have two of them. I have attached a post that I made to the Nikonians group a while back. Hope this helps you.

Russ: #5, RE: Anyone remember Vivitar & Kiron Lenses? Posted by Russ Butner on 29-Dec-02 at 06:58 AM In response to message #0

Yes, the Kiron's were very good lenses. Made by Kino Precision Industries, of Japan. They made the first of the Vivitar Series One, 70-210 3.5 zooms. The rumor is that the Kiron lenses were becoming too, close in design to the Vivitar Series One line, and that Vivitar, through political moves, had their US distribution rights revoked. After that, Vivitar went to Tokina for the building of their Series One line, and then to Komine. Eventually Sigma, Baso, Kobori, Samyang and a few other's made their lens line. They are now made by Cosina. (sigh) I have and use the Kiron 28-85 2.8 zoom, and it is a very good lens, optically and construction wise. (very similar to the Vivitar Series One, 28-90) Also have and have used the Vivitar 7 element macro converter (made by Kiron) and have to agree with the many that state it as being the best teleconverter ever made. If you are looking for an extremely good macro lens, the Kiron 105 mm 2.8 is phenomenal. Goes to 1:1 life size without any adapters, and the images are great. I love mine. The optics and construction is the usual, great Kiron build. The Vivitar Series 1 90mm 2.5 macro, is also a very good lens. I have the production code for the Vivitar line. If you are interested in one of their lenses, just ask and I'll tell you who made it for them, and when. Yeah, too bad that Kiron is no longer around. They are beautiful lenses. As are the older Vivitar Series 1 line.

I have a Nikon FE2 that I bought 20 years ago. I have a series e 70-210 lense and a 55 mm lense. I am looking for something in the neighborhood of a 35-105 lense. I understand that I need a AI or AIS lense (series e does not have a telephoto in that range). Do you have any suggestions on whether I should get an AI or AIS. Also, do you know a good place to buy a new one. Great message board. Thanks.

In reply to the person with his FE and blank exposures: Remember the maximum shutter speed of the FE is 1/1000sec. If you try to take a picture with a higher speed, you wil get a dark slide, like it wasn't exposed at all. Hope this can help you.

I own a Nikon FE10 and I have been having problems with the rewind knob. It randomly falls off. I have already purchased 2 replacments and they have fallen off and become lost as well. It is becoming very expensive to keep replacing this part. I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem with their camera? Possible defect?

Anne trying to get a price for camera equipment you see listed on the net sure isn't easy. I haven't received a offer for my mint FE2 anyhere near what it is supposed to be worth. As for that Kiron. I had one many years ago on a EM body. Sold it to my brotherinlaw. I don't remember the price and either does he. Bhaskar. I don't think your going to find replacement parts for that camera unless you buy someone else's used camera that needs repair also. Just not what have damaged. That had to hurt, dropping it. George

Does anyone know anything about a Kiron Macro lens? I have one up for bis on eBay and I have had tons of questions on it. Not many bids though. One gentelman e-mailed me from Germany and asked if I would sell it outright. He said he'd give me 100 and pay shippping. I looked this lens up and I saw one going foe 325 mint which this one is no fungus or dust inside. Does anyone think I can get more than that? He said it was rare. Thanks Anne
