Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FE Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. Hi,

My Nikon FE is working perfectly. I haven't used it for a long time because I have another camera. I opened my FE to check it's condition inside (removed the lens). I saw a little dust on the reflex mirror. I tried to blow the dust off with a blower brush but it wouldn't go away altogether so I tried to use a lens cleaning tissue (dry). This left smudges all over the mirror. What should I do? Shall I take to a service center to clean the mirror or I can do it myself using the lens cleaning tissue and liquid?

Thanks for your help.

Yousef

Hi there,

A year ago I have bought an FE2 as a substitue for my EOS500, after I find out that photography was more then a simple push in the button, and that my EOS500 would no let do much more then that.

I've seen this question asked many times before, but once again I'll do it, since I've never saw a single answer for it.

Does any one knows how can I read the manufacture date of my FE2 trhough the serial number.

Thanks,

rV

Camera Back won't open

I've got an FE whos back just decided to stay closed. Pulling the rilm rewind spindle up will not release the back to get the film out. The knob pulls up the first half inch, but will not go the last 1/8th inch that pops the back.

Any Ideas?

I've had an FE for a while, which I've used with a 50mm, 1.8 lens. I've been thinking about investing in a wider angle (say, 35mm) and a longer lens (say, 85-100). Any recommendations about what works well for you?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Jen,
Sounds like you need to use a different repair service.

hi-i have an old Nikon FE w/ a jammed shutter. it was given to me about 5 months ago and had not been used for a long time. i have had it "fixed" 3x and it still continues to jam. it has been professionally cleaned, has working batteries, and will work for about a roll and a half of film and then the shutter jams up -and it will not work at B or M90. i really need help and am hoping to not spend any more $. thanks!! jen

Mike,
Regarding your questions about the FM3a vs. FE2. The main differences seem to be that the FM3a will function in manual mode at all shutter speeds even without a battery along with it having DX film de-coding. Also the FE2 has been out of production for sometime now and parts for repair could be a real issue. As far as I know those are the main differences.
I have played with the FM3a and at first glance it looks and feels just like my FE2. If you already owned an FE2 I would advise you to use it untill dies before buying an FM3a. But since you do not I would say buy the FM3a unless you can find a great deal on a FE2 that is in mint condition. Bare in mind that the FE2 commands a pretty hefty price on the used market and is still a very popular camera so I think the chances of finding one at a cheap price are slim.
