Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FE Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. I live in Brasil and I bought my Nikon FE body 13 years ago. One day I was coming from a holiday at the beach where I've used my Nikon to took many beautiful pictures. I didn't knew, but my dog, a Boxer one, caught my camera by the strap, with the film (pictures I took at the beach). My dog was running all around my home, going up and down in the ladders. After a couple minutes I caught my dog, and then my camera. I couldn't belive, but it didn't open, I had my beautiful pictures and my Nikon keep function until now. It's servive only with some scratches

Andy, Essentially there's no difference between the two. Elsewhere on this site there are more details on the shutter (I think it may be in these posts). I think it more important to read the description and operation details of the unit. Remember in all these transactions, it's very much buyer beware.

Hi I am looking at some ebay autions for a few FE2. There are those with the honeycomb shutter curtain and those with aluminum. Most sellers don't take photos of the interior where I can see the shutter curtain. Is there any exterior features that distinquish one from the other? What about the serial number series? May be I just have to ask the seller, although I would like make sure what I am getting myself into.

Hey, this web site is excellence! I've learned so much about Nikon. Thanks for your helps, Andy

Roger - the FE should fire even without a lens.

Does anyone know if I could use M42 screw mount lenses with a Nikon FE2 and still use aperture priority? I have a number of Super Takumar lenses and was wondering if I could use them on the FE2 with the right adapter and have the aperture priority still work if I stopped down the lens manually of course.

I have just bought an FE2 but have no lens yet. The shutter will not fire even though the batteries are 3V. Does this kind of camera have to have a lens mounted before it will fire? Thanks very much, Roger.

Hi, does anyone have a pdf'ed version of the Nikon FE2 manual that they could send me? I'm in dire need of one, and can't find my original. you can email it to the address there, just reverse the two halves to circumvent the no spam formatting. It would be greatly appreciated. --Mike

Fred: About a year ago I bought a new shutter for my FE2 from Nikon Canada, so while parts may be hard to find, there are some out there. If it's a "minty" camera, I might take the chance. If it's well cared for it will likely last a long time... As for professional techs. There are many out there (some names have been mentioned on this board), Repairs to cameras is typically labour intensive and will be relatively expensive in most cases. Gerry

Barry - The corrective lenses for FM2 and FM3A will fit nicely. They should be available from a well-assorted photo store.

Can I hear from the FE2 owners what problems did they encounter in having their units repaired by the technician? It has been said that since the unit has been discontinued many years ago, parts have become a rarity? what specific parts have become rare and hard to find that made your FE2 a paperweight? The reason Im asking this is that there is this minty FE2 thats being offered to me for a good price but am afraid to get it. I cant figure it out if the wise money sez go for the brand new FM3A, since it would mean double the money i have to spend.
