Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. I have a very old Nikon -- FG series which has not been used for so long that I no longer can find the operating instructions. If there is someone out there that could help, sure would appreciate it. Thanks.2. From : Glenn (glenn@acay.com.au)

Nikon FE timing chip I'm looking for a replacement timing chip for my Nikon FE, I can't find anyone to do a repair here in Australia because of a lack of replacement parts, so if anyone knows where I can get replacement parts I'd really appreciate it . Can someone tell me if I can get a corrective diopter for my old FE? I don't see as well as I use to and probably need a -3 diopter. Can the viewfinder hold a diopter/ Thanks,Barry4. From : Gerry (exdonner@yahoo.ca)

I have several times also replaced the batteries and know of no "system". Only thing is maybe turn the shutter speed dial to manual or M250 before or after replacing the battery ??? Also somebody asked several months ago about infrared camera's. I didn't check out the site you quoted but my take is all cameras can take infrared. It's the film that makes the difference. Only thing is, some experimentation may be required to find the best exposure settings etc. Also if using a zoom, the focus shifts as you zoom. That's what that curved (usually red) line on zooms is for.5. From : Gerry (exdonner@yahoo.ca)

I have previously posted about trying to repair my FE2 (damaged shutter). Well I'm still in the process of repairing. I located a new shutter and replaced it ( not for the faint of heart). It appears I missed something though as the shutter release is not right, it is still loose.... But that's not why I write!! It was my better half who a few years ago put her finger through the shutter and has felt guilty since. A little while ago she got over it, as she bought at a local auction, an FE2 (not black like my old one but...), a 70-210 zoom, a 35mm wide angle, vivitar flash, 2x multiplier and a pretty nice bag. All for $110 Canadian or about $65 US.
I just had to share with others who would appreciate the value. I'm just very happy to have an excellent camera again.6. From : GTF (gtfsr@optonline.net)

Hi all ! I have a nikon FE. It was bought new by my father years ago, and is in mint- cond. Lately i have seemed to notice when i move the camera there seems to be a noise inside the prism, like something has come lose. It still has the same expousure meter reading as my f100, maybe a 1/3 overexpourse. It could just be me, but i dont think i noticed the noise before. I checked the focusing screen and it is in the way it should be, and is not loose. Any info. would help me so much, because this camera means alot to me. Thanks all...8. Several years ago I replaced the dead battery on my Nikon FE and the shutter no longer worked. I took the camera to a local repair shop where the guy said "if you you cheap aXXXXXXs would buy these cameras new you would have the owners manuals and would know the sequence required to reset the system". At this point the gentleman turns around and does something with the camera and voila, it works...followed by the phrase " next time figure it out yourself". The only two positive things that came out of that bizarre interaction was a working Nikon and a much shorter "people to take my camera to for repair" list. Well, it is time again to replace the battery, would anyone be kind enough to provide me with the magic "sequence of events" for the replacement of the nikon FE battery. Thanks.9. Bill the difference between to FE and the FM is that the FE can be used as a semiautomatic. The FM is pure manual. The 2 series is the later cameras but I no longer recall the differences. BTW I have a FE2 looking for someone to put it to good use. George
