Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. Hi all, First of all. to the site maintainers: Extensive knowledge + web-design capabilities + devotion = great site, keep up the good work.
Now my question. I have an FE (3350233)that I bought second-hand and seem to have a problem with the focussing. Often, though certainly not always, my pictures come out focused at a point a bit too close. Also with pictures where I distinctly remember aligning the two halves in my K-screen very precisely. I haven't done any systematic tests yet, and memory is deceptive, but I think it happens with all my 3 lenses (28/2.8E, 50/2.0Ai, 135/2.8Ai).
Possible reasons I came up with: (a) misalignment of film plane/mirror/focusing screen. (b) error in split prism. (c) misjudgment by myself (don't think so anymore) I think (b) explains best why not on all pictures I see this (I sometimes focus on off-center subjects) although DOF could also be an explanation for this. Has anyone else experienced this and/or do you have an idea what it could be and most importantly: How do I get rid of it. Thanks, Allard2. From : JP Isore (unicorn@generation.net)

Justin Epting: Your problems could well be caused by the lens mounting ring. Check if the few screws that tightening the ring is loosen or checkcv if the aperture stopped down lever is mis-allign (removed the lens and you can see the lever at the left hand side), it is possibly caused accidentally dropping a heavy lens mounted on the camera. Replace the ring may solve the problem, if the problem is relating to the aperture stopped down lever, try pressing the depth of field preview lever, if it got stuck, that may be the culprit. Hope this helps. I like this site very much and it is bad to see a maintainer leaving the board. Cheers.4. From : Jerrie (jerriorberman@yahoo.com)

Joe Szep: A lot of manual focus SLRs (not just Nikon, this happens to many of the Canon A series bodies, and even professional camera such as Pentax LX etc., however, I have seen some of them were actually caused by a sticking mirror bounce absorbubf foam which melts over time and causing the mirror sticking to the melted foam. Check undernealth the reflex mirror if that is the cause. Just use your index finger lift the mirror upward to see.5. From : Andy Dick (andy@logjiztix.com)

Howdy .... FE user that is having problems with the stop mechanism when the end of the film is reached. The advance lever still functions even when the film is at its last frame so my last pic is being constantly re-exposed until I remember to look at the frame counter. Fixable? Thanks, Andy6. I'm having problems with my aperture. I can't change the aperture on any of my lenses. I'm guessing that something on the camera body is stuck and not allowing the aperture to change. Anybody have experience with this? I'm hoping it's a quick fix. thanks in advance, justin epting7. From : Joe Szep (szep@sympatico.ca)

I just purchased a FE and happened upon a problem that creeps up every couple of shots - sometimes while in AUTO the mirror will stick, until I press with gentle pressure on the film advance lever. (sometimes just touching it gently works to unstick it) I'd like to know if anyone has a clue what might be wrong - could it be a simple cleaning that it needs? Thanks for the help - Joe8. Over the last few years I have enjoyed my association with this web site and its development team. I have learned a tremendous amount and just wanted to take the time to thank Leonard and his staff for the opportunity to share in this experience. But like everything in life there is a beginning and end. I will no longer be able to field questions for this project.
I hope all who have visited the Photography in Malaysia web sites have found them useful and have enjoyed them as much as I have. They are after all a work of love and passion. The time and effort that has been put into their creation is beyond what is normally found in a recreational web site. I have no idea how many hours of personal time that the creators have spent but I can assure you that it has to amount to hundreds if not thousands of hours. I am pretty sure there is no other body of work on the net that provides such in depth information as these. Take Care and Best Wishes to All. Chuck Hester9. Nick Nichols: It is very difficult to identify a problem which could have caused your camera to behave that way. Good news is - your camera is still functioning. But from your description, which seemed more confine to battery issue. Unlike the earlier posting by Andrew Tham which seemed to be having a bigger problems inside his camera. Other than the battery which usually is the main culprit for such behavior (have you check the polarity contacts ? Use a rubber eraser to wipe the condensation clean), sometimes, it may also caused by the Release System inside the camera. In a normal operation, when you press shutter release button in a full stroke action will unlatched the reflex mirror and diaphragm control levers. This opens the Mirror Switch and in turn, being turned on to latch the shutter magnet. If power supply voltage under load remains a constant voltage or above, the release cycle continues and everything should be happy - the camera functions normally. If supply voltage falls below a specific voltage, the mirror may still releases the opening curtain, but it will not run and everything comes to a halt. Moving the speed control to mechanical "90" or "250" in the case of Nikon FE2 will usually resets the system and allows the shutter to run through. So, these kind of problems may not able to handle by guesswork or via a forum. If you are very positive the battery is not the cause of such mishap - the best solution is still sending your camera back to do a throughout check.

Hi, We have a Nikkon FE camera...
A friend of mine at work just had his Nikkormat EL camera evaluated because he wanted to sell it. 3 different persons recommended he keep it rather than sell it. They informed him it was of such age that it was a 'collectable' and could be worth a lot of money... if not now but in the future.
It seems our camera is of the same or similar age to his and wondered if the same could be said for our camera too.
