Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FE Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for the camera.

I have an F, and would like to buy an FE or FE2 (FM or FM2, for that matter) body. What is the essential difference between these cameras? I am an amateur, and love the quality of my lenses; I won't be "pushing the envelope" regarding the fancy features on these cameras - I just want the auto features.

I have two FE2s...and 50+ years experience in photography. Got the FE2 s because very like the OM-2n that I've used for years, but wanted to try Nikon lenses.

Anyway, to answer some recent questions:
a) a 28-105 lens is BOTH a wide-angle AND a [mild] telephoto, known as a 'zoom' lens. 'Normal' for cameras is when the lens focal length is near the DIAGONAL of the frame size. 35mm frame size is 24x36 so the diagonal is...43mm but really anything in the 45-55mm range is thought 'normal' for 35mm cameras. 28mm is a nice wide angle. Lenses about double 'normal' are semi-telephoto and make very nice portrait lenses, roughly in the 85-105mm range.

b) to the screenwriter wanting to know about photography. Sure, ask me a question or two..

c) to the person with a light leak from an FE or FE2 camera. This MAY be, because, over time, the foam material sealing light out along the edges of the inside back of the camera..this foam may turn 'gummy' and let light in. There are kits available on Internet [Ebay and elsewhere] if you are good with glue and small things, otherwise, you can have a camera repair shop do it. But you MAY have a different problem. One method to test: on a bright sunny day, go to a dark room and put a short [12-exposure] roll in the camera. wrap the camera in a dark blanket or dark jacket so only the lens is sticking out. Go outside and shoot up the whole roll, sometimes pointing towards the sun and sometimes away from the sun, but always keeping the camera wrapped in the jacket. When you have to wind it, go to a shady spot. take the camera back to the dark room. Hang up the jacket. Rewind film and put it in a closed dark plastic cannister [do not use the clear cannister]. Have it developed. If there are NO light leaks now, then you can be reasonably sure you need to replace the foam. If there are SOME light leaks, for example, when you pointed the camera towards the sun, then you have a different problem needing repair. if there are ALL light leaks, then perhaps you need a darker jacket!! *smile* Good luck to all! --Joe

I have recently aquired a Canon AE1 program camera with a Kiron 28-105 lens attached to it. I am somewhat knowledgable on the camera as my brother has had one for years. The lens is what I am needing information on. The model # is 36310618 and the other numbers are F3.2-4.5 Macro 1:4. It has a W and a T so I am wondering is this a wide angle or telephoto lens? Any inforomation is appreciated on this matter as we purchased it to learn on. Thanks, Merry Ann email me at sams76@charter.net

Hello to all, I recently purchased a Nikon MD-12 on Ebay for my FE2. I got the unit in the mail today and immediately attached it to my camera and switched the motor drive on. The light blinked and the unit advanced my film as it should, however I have had some problems with the unit. Whether in "S" (single) or "C" (continuous) mode on the motor drive, I cannot get the MD to meter on my camera in "A" (automatic) mode. Further, when I depress the shutter on the MD fully, the mirror locks up every time (so I have to go the M250 mechanical setting on my camera to unlock the mirror. When I do this, the MD advances the film immediately and the mirror unlocks like nothing is wrong). Can somebody please tell me if this is a malfunction in my MD-12 or if there is something I am doing incorrectly that is causing the afore mentioned to occur. Thanks to all responses!!! Brian

Greetings! I bought a Nikon FE2 back in 1985 and shot about 10 rolls of film with it. The camera has not been used since then. My question is... should I have any service done to it before using it again? Thanks Curt
