Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FE Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. You may also use this message board as a guestbook for the camera.

Ed - An AI coupled lens will enable full aperture metering with your FE. A highly regarded AI coupled telezoom is the Series E 75-150mm. Find links about it @ www.nikonlinks.com.

Christian - I am not quite sure what the problem is. Is it the rewind shaft that is stuck? Perhaps you could explain it some more.

I have an Fe acquired about 1980 and have experienced an intermitent problem with the meter. The needle periodically bounces eratically providing no reading and the shutter will
lock up. Since approximately 1981 this intermitent problem has been occurring at random. I've sent it through Nikon dealers for repair a number of times (6+) only to have it returned 'cleaned' etcetera and an accompanying bill. Recently I dropped it off at the Canadian Nikon H.O. explaining in person the problem. The Customer Service rep, who is really a nice guy advised that the problem lies in the carbon tacking device within the meter which is sensitive and the parts are no longer available. He advised all he could do is offer me a newer camera at a discounted price as it is not repairable. He says Nikon will not fix it and cannot repair so I'm SOL. My question is have you ever experienced this kind of poor PR policy from Nikon and if so is it correctible? Do you have any recommendations?

Chip - @ http://www.nikonlinks.com/unklbil/repair.htm you will find a listing of repair places. One of them may be willing top sell you the needed part. If you need assistance in doing the repair consider joining the NikonRepair group (see URL above). Good luck.

I have an FE2 and the spring on the meter coupling lever in the camera body seems to be broken or has come detached. If I manually move the lever over before putting on the lens, I can change the aperture ring to higher f-stops, but without the spring the meter won't know that I've reduced the f#. Does anyone know how to fix this, and where to get any spare parts for it? I could live with it, but it sure would be nice to fix it.

I bought a Nikon FE in 1981 and have always wanted a zoom lense. I noticed some Nikkor lenses for sail on EBay. What models work w/ an FE? Do I need to look at AI lenses only? Thanks!

What should be the value of a used FE2 with standard 50mm 1.8 Lens? Thanks.

I m experiencing the same problem as many other people..my Nikon FE shutter keeps getting stuck . Setting it on M90 or B releases it, but any other setting just causes the mirror to flip up and never go back down. My light meter is still working, so I know the battery is not to blame, as many people claim this is the problem...This is really frustrating me, and being a college photography student I don't have a lot of money to spare, and I have final projects I need to get done before my semester ends....someone have any help for me?
