Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. **charis ioannou**: your next question "...shall i press the depth of field preview button before taking a photo ? ...." DON'T do that if you are not familair with how the Nikon body/lens mechanism works - pressing the DOF button to take a picture is actually taking a picture by stopping down to the aperture you have chosen on the aperture ring. There should be NO harm to your camera and lens used EXCEPT the metering guide inside the viewfinder is NOT correct (It is an action used ONLY when you are mounting an older Non-AI Nikkor lens and need a metering guide).2. **charis ioannou**: There is a Instruction manual for Nikon FE here: http://mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfeseries/fe/basic1.htm All you need to do is to pull the film advance lever to the standoff position will activate the camera meter (remember to flush it against the camera body if not use, it will turn the meter off that way); amonmg the three FEs - only the original Nikon FE uses this way to activiate the metering circuit; the FE2 and FE10 use the shutter release button to activate metering, the film advance lever for FE2 has re-designed to act as the shutter release button LOCK.3. To Paul Keyser. I had the same problem. Over time the seals wear out and need to be replaced. I had it done and the problem is gone. Good luck.5. From : Dale (dalepawley@hotmail.com)

Hello all.
I recently purchased a FE from an antique store. Only problem I have with the camera is the shutter seems locked. I put new batteries in the compartment and placed the shutter on B...alas no response. I think it is jammed. If there is anyone with a familiar problem or who knows of a way to unjam it please let me know. The camera is in wonderful shape, sturdy and the like - only not working at present. Also, does anyone know how much it costs to replace the shutter if that is the problem?
Thank you for all your help

Jason Kupferer,
There's an eyepiece on ebay right now, and I see them quite regularly for around $20. Good luck, they are great cameras!

I recently bought a used Nikon FE with a Nikkor 55mm micro lens, and a Nikkor 135mm lens. Both lenses were AIS configured. The camera store where I purchased everything has been very helpful. The Nikon FE is the best camera that I have owned or used;and, I have been an amateur for over thirty years. There is one problem that occurs. Most of my photography is done in bright sunlight. Approximately 4 pictures per roll of 24 exposures have evidence of flare. Another person using this web site also reported this problem of flare. It can be found in one of the archived messages. He or she asked for comments concerning what might be occuring. I could not find any answers that he may have received. I would appreciate any comment or helpful suggestion. Maybe, I should shoot with a polarizing filter? I posted this message last week. If there is a problem with my message, please let the webmaster contact me. Thank you. Paul Keyser9. "Jason Kupferer": Don't worry. Nikon FE's eyepiece is the same with the current model Nikon FM2n. It has six grades and I think * the default is a 1X which comes with the camera as standard. Since you might be buying an eyepiece, I would strongly suggest you to get a rubber eyecup, that is a very helpful accessory for eye relief and very comfortable in focusing (The FM2n uses the same cup as well). * check the manual at this site (FM, FE, FE2 or FM2, they share the same family of accessories).10. I recently bought a camera for my fiancee off of ebay. She is a photographer, and I wanted to give her a special gift for our wedding. The camera is a Nikon FE, and when I received it, the eye piece to the camera was missing. Unable to resolve this with the person I bought the camera from, I am searching for an eye piece to make the camera complete. Can you help me find a place that has them.
Thank You
Jason Kupferer
