Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
I have my admiration for some of the selective models within the Nikon FE Series. It is sad to realise Nikon doesn't understand what we are looking forward to at times in a SLR body. As the FE series models (Other than the FE-10) have long being discontinued. You may use this site for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among yourself. I see all the related post about the FE acting up and only working on M90. What is the answer? My "New" FE and my "New" AI-S 200 worked for one shot on AUTO and then on the second shot it locked up (mirror up) and would not relase until I move the dial to M90. It seems like all the post about M90 are related. Are the answers posted somewhere?
Thanks,
Nick2. From : Andrew Tham (kh_drew@hotmail.com)

Hi, my FE has been giving me problems of late.
First, the self-timer lever is malfunctioning. When I use it to make exposures, either as a self-timer or as exposure lock, the film is not exposed at all though the mirror flips and the shuttle is released. I suspect that it may be a synchronisation problem causing the shuttle curtain to release only after the mirror has come down.
Second, when exposure times are greater than 2 seconds, the mirror will lock-up and the shuttle curtain will open, BUT they will not return! Hence causing over-exposure of the film. I have tried using fresh batteries but the problem persists.
Third, the max flash sync of 125 has problems. I was at a wedding shoot recently and used a flash quite extensively. All the exposures with flash at 125 came up with the top 1/3 of the frames not receiving the flash light (i.e underexposed).
Just wondering if any FE owners experienced the same problem.
cheers

Jennifer, both the AI and AIS lenses are compatible with the FE series camera. Note the Non-AI lenses are not and should not be mounted on this style camera (except the Nikon FE which would require a more tedious way called stopped down AE to check metering). The Non AI lenses can be converted but most feel the optics of the AI and AIS lenses are generally regarded as much better optically, so why bother. IF you are not too sure of how to identify an AI lens from non-AI optic, see here for some illustrations: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/nikonfmount/aiais.htm Hope this helps.6. Hello everone, I just found this site and love. I have been useing my FE since I bought it back in the late 70's or early 80's I can't remimber. The trouble is my light meter is not working. I took to a repair guy here in Houston and he said it was a broken diode and handed it back. Will I have to live with this or is there any great repair folks? I'm not dising the Houston repair guy, he may have been just very busy. Thanks, glen

I am looking into buying a zoom lens for my FE camera, but am having trouble. After looking on the internet I have noticed that some of sites are saying Ai mount or AI-S mount. Does anyone happen to know which I should get for my camera? Ai or AIS, or even a Non AI??? Thanks8. From : Christian Maldonado Fisker (FiskerChristian@hotmail.com)

A friend just got an old Nikkon FE and a Reflex Nikkor 500m/f8. She's having trouble making the two work together. She can mount the latter on the former, but when she sets the shutter to "Auto," advances the film and thensnaps the shutter, the mirror locks up in the "up" position and won't come down. The only way to get the mirror back down is to switch the shutter dial from "auto" to a manual shutter speed. I am sure there's a simple answer. Hopefully someone out there will share it. Thanks for your help in advance10.
